I'd like to join this challenge if that's OK

My name is Mark and today is Day 1 of the rest of my life.

I've gambling through online sports betting from back when I was 18 - I am now nearly 27. Should have done this a long time ago but we all make mistakes. Costly mistakes but mistakes all the same.

I gamble at least three times a week on mostly tennis betting. When I was 18 I won quite a bit of money using this method. It's safe to say they've took it back at least ten times to this date. I chase losses so much. Gambling is poison and I wish I'd never started.

I decided today that enough was enough and I needed to do something.

I self excluded from all of the sites I use and contacted GamCare who have referred me for online counselling.

I have a partner who I love more than life itself and she has been so supportive up to now but there's only so much that a person can take. She shouldn't have to live with someone who drains away all the money.

Bookies aren't getting another penny of my money.

I'd love to hear any tips that you people have for someone who is just starting on the road to recovery.

Thank you very much.

Evening all, apologies for not checking in for a good month or so, if i'm honest have just had better things to do, gambling is far from my mind and so is this website. I don't mean that to sound like a negative thing as this has been a great use of support when I've been at my lowest but I can honestly say I'm currently feeling the best I have in over 3/4 years. Financially I'm not totally out of the clear but my head is definetly in the right place.

I will still come here every so often, but no news from me is probably good news, have a few holidays coming up including Ibiza, which I have heard isn't cheap, a year ago I turned down a summer holiday to Ibiza, now I can enjoy these things in life.

Keep it up everyone, things do get easier over time if you keep your own pennies in your pocket.

Good evening everyone, checking in to report a gamble free happy week. No urges or thoughts to place a bet for a long time now which is allowing me to reap the rewards. Keep up the good work folks and try to remain strong and positive throughout those difficult days.

Evening all,

Checking in for the week...no urges. The abstinence gets easier - started by counting hours, then days, then weeks and currently months.

Wishing you all a peaceful, bet free weekend

Checking in for the week Big Philla!!

Can't believe it's Friday already and only seemed like yesterday that I checked in for last week!! I was part of a team doing the Three Peaks challenge last week - tiring but worthwhile......and I was only the driver - raised nearly £2k for my chosen charity - feels good.

Its so good to see much loved girlies in the challenge hitting their respective years - well done girls - pwoud.

Keep up the amazing work Phil - loving the humility, but accept the praise - much deserved.

Until next week!

Mr B

Checking myself in and I'm feeling realy good because I've not been troubled by urges and every day that goes by is a step closer to New York! This week however has been horrific in work and I will be glad to get tomorrow out the way and have a day off. I think the me of a couple of years ago would have ended up in a bookies to take my mind off whats going on in work, so clearly I'm progressing as thats not something thats come to mind. So day 21 for me, no urges and I don't know a thing about whats gone on in Ascot!

triangle, if anyone wants to share emails then they can, the group email is [email protected] if any soldiers would like to make contact with someone else by phone or email then all they need to do is contact me there. Likewise if anyone wants their email shared with other members on the group email then just send me an email. Happy to do anything if it helps someone out.

MrAmazinglyAce, welcome to the challenge, theres no better time to give up than now, don't worry about the past, the money is gone and the damage is done! We can however change the future and by finding away to beat our addiction we can have a much brighter future. If you need tips on what works for stopping I really suggest you spend some time reading though the 2014 challenge post or this post where there will be plenty to inspire you. Alternatively Duncanmac has a brilliant recovery diary which is full of useful information. Next step for you is to make another post after which you will be added to the front page and checked into the 2015 challenge.

Good to hear from you Rst.Ex-CG glad to hear you are going well, enjoy Ibiza and I look forward to hearing you are still going well in a month or twos time!

Three Peaks sounds like tough going Mr B I try to get up Snowdon once a year and its a killer on the knees, especially walking down. I would however love to one day give the Three Peaks a go!

So we have 18 soldiers needing to get to base camp and check in, there have been some really positive posts this week, it would be fabulous to get everyone safely checked in by midnight tomorrow.

Checking in day 139 gamble free! I love not having to worry about my money now I've stopped gambling! Spare cash everywhere! I used to always spend whatever I had extra on gambling and go without on other things. But now I'm enjoying life doing those other things! Beats sitting on a machine on your own losing all of your money and feeling s**t about yourself! Keep strong
