Hi Day 77 checking in.
Hectic week so not much time thinking of gambling although have had urges. Have systems in place now so no chance to gamble.

Day 248 - Checking In

Life is very stressful at the moment. Can't wait for things to settle down again as they surely will. Many opportunities to gamble but making the right choice each time. Learning to fight my corner is hard. I never learned it whilst gambling but have to do it now. Looking forward to 250 days. Take care of yourselves. Suzy.

Ryan18 wrote: Hello I'm checking in for this week. I haven't gambled for 16 days now. Like I said last week I'm still angry it's still short. It should be a lot longer as I've tried to quit before. This time I am determined. Reason? I finally told my girlfriend about my problem. She has all my bank cards as I requested new ones and have no access to money. To be fair though, I don't have no money. I get paid on the 26th and it's going to feel weird. I have money but I have no control over it. We have to pay our holiday with it and save for outrspending money anyway so I'm skint. Thanks for reading kept it short but thats all I have to say for now, hope everyone is doing good like I am (so far)

Hi Ryan!

I am in the same boat as you. Finally told my girlfriend everything last week and the eight that was lifted off my shoulders was awesome! We're now happier as a couple as I'm not stressed about losing money all the time and life seems better.

It's only been 2 weeks but it's a good solid start!

Good luck

evening everyone. checking in on day 17 gamble free.

feeling very low today due to hubby's foul mood. i've been working extras over the last couple of weeks to replace the £200 that i gambled 18 days ago. he's not happy that i'm working extra shifts and not at home more but we are off on holiday in 12 weeks and 6 days (not counting ......much) he's said that i need to save the spending money for the whole family. we haven't planned to go on holiday with anyone else just us four, however 2 other families that we know who have children our daughters age are going to the same place, the same 2 weeks, same hotel the lot. the downside is that money is no option for the other 2 families, not ours. determined to not let it spoil the holiday and also determined not to gamble. i've told both our kids if we haven't got it they can't have it. there will be so much money for the 2 weeks and i will do what i normally do and split the money equally over the 14 days. if there is any money left over from one day to the next it can be carried over but i would prefer to take any excess money home.

sorry for the ramble.

stay strong everyone and remember together we can do it

Rst.Ex-CG wrote: Ok so after me being so supportive last week I have myself been a bit of an idiot, got paid, spent it all and a lot more in a few days. Maxed overdraft and credit cards again. Really considering telling a friend now, he is someone who I used to do a cheeky fiver on accumulators at the weekend, while hidden away in secret I was blowing thousands and that accumulator was to try and recoup the losses. This guy I actually shared a big win with once treating him to some nice clothes. Little did he know I was very much in the red already and it was a temporary gain. So hopefully that will take a bit of the secrecy away and I will always have a physical person to check up on me as I have to be honest when I'm in the gambling zone, stopping and coming on here is the furthest thing from my brain. Sorry to let you all down, checking in on day 1. But as I said last week still over 300 days this year so will hit the treble century and be gamble free by Christmas.

remember you haven't let any of us down. we are all in the same boat. every day is a new day and at least you are admitting your slip and restarting a fresh. stay strong and together we can do it

Hi MJC,

Read your post and it gripped my heart. I would like to ask you to swap email addresses if you don't mind and just somehow we can make your family holiday the one to remember. Never pressure, but would like to speak a little more in detail with ya.
Believe in miracles? I do 🙂

Challenge Update Week 7

Intro

Brilliant to get back from York to see so many check ins. I have to say a huge WELL DONE troops, we have had 7 missing soldiers check back in this week and only 2 missing soldiers! So we end this week 60 strong which is just brilliant. We have three brave wounded soldiers, Rst.Ex-CG, egfr and pabby have slipped up these past few days. I know myself how hard it is after a slip, the easy option is to give up and go on a gambling binge, chasing our losses. So I’m proud to walk alongside the three of you, well done for dusting yourself down and posting again. Try to figure out what it was that made you slip and put firm barriers in place to make it harder to slip in future.

This weeks update will be a little shorter than usual, I’ve had such a busy week and have just not had the time to write something or find an article that I feel would be helpful. So I’m sorry it’s a little late and shorter than usual, but I promise next weeks will have more substance. Anyhow the important thing is we are all here and the milestones and weekly counts are looking better all the time. Finally this Thursday marks day 50 of the challenge, it’s gone so quickly and its brilliant to see so many of us still going strong!

Gambling Adverts

As I’ve not had time to prepare anything I will just ramble on about something that bothers me, hopefully not too dull or boring. As we all know the ads are everywhere and I try my best to ignore them but just lately I have started to find myself getting so angry! It doesn’t help that I think of my fellow soldiers whenever I see an ad. I worry now that one of you may be struggling and that advert could be the thing that takes you over the edge. I especially dislike this when the fun stops campaign. These morally bankrupt gambling organisations would all be out of business without the heavy punters who are way past the fun stage. If all they had were the weekly fiver a week ‘fun’ brigade they would be put out of business. For many years we have been problem gamblers and these companies have never tried to help, I’ve never been asked if the fun had stopped or maybe I had spent enough. No they just want to take take take!!!

Well here’s my idea for an advert. Join the 2015 Challenge and be a part of the place where the fun STARTS. For me in my 77 days gamble free I have had a lot more fun than I ever did as a gambler. I have booked a holiday, had nights out and just been on a lads weekend to York. So stick a finger up to the tv, internet, email, facebook and twitter ads offering us all these offers to suck us back in. The fun stopped a long time ago for all of us, since then we have had to endure a miserable and painful existence. But now we march together, onwards through 2015 and this is the place where the magic happens! Stay strong and be part of something where the fun starts!
