Hi all

I was interested in reading that bookies are allowing fobt users to set how much money they play or for how long.

I noticed my local *** has a big display in the window.

I don't really know much about this and was interested in people's thoughts.

I feel myself that it is the bookies paying lip service so the government do not tighten regulations.

I have not been in a betting shop for about 16 months but i found when setting limits for online play there were ways round this.

I agree half life.problem gamblers will never set there own limits.that's why there problem gamblers.I've tried in the past online but just moved to another website once I've hit my limit.once I start gambling the only limit I have is every penny available to me that day.

I think a shared database and a some sort of membership card that has to be swiped before playing these machines need to be implemented.therefore if a person has a problem they can exclude themselves from every shop.the same for online.a person should be able to self exclude from all sites in one go.I've self excluded from sites only to open up new accounts elswere.

I think the measures the bookmakers have put in place will have no effect for problem gamblers.I think though with all the media attention this week that more will be done.

Just a thought - you would only set a limit to minimise your losses and not with the intention of minimising your winning.

Effectively you are saying I know I will lose so how about just not going on in the first place.

I have posted quite a bit under the FOBT thread I started and am all for encouraging people but get a little fed up with the stupidity of people continuing to play and then moan about losing. This is then compounded by people on the forum saying never mind, never mind, we all have slips, what's important is you are back posting, as long as you learn from it then it's fine - for goodness sake just keep off the flipping things and grow up!

This FOTB thing confuses me, I have never had an addiction to them and do not want one, they sound like a bookies quick way to cash in.

Dave you have hit the nail on the head about people posting on here saying they have relapsed and gone back on them, but for people to reply saying "its ok", "relapses happen" etc...STOP IT. Its not OK, its lazyness, its poor willpower, its playing into the bookies hands. YOU WILL NOT WIN!!!

Rst...36 days clean and really enjoying a life without gambling.

Bookies are getting scared that their little cash cows are going to get banned soon so are making it look like they are doing something about it and being responsible but it's just a token gesture, problem gamblers will just move on to the next machine or the next shop (which is only a few doors away in this day in age).
