Hi

My name is Liam and I am rubbish at writing and talking so I will be short and sweet.

I’m currently 22 and started gambling at 18, my grandad left me £5000 in funds and I became addicted to money.

At first it was all going well after winning blackjack hands and roulettes hands online I eventually built myself up to £29,000 then I lost my mamar to cancer I hit rock bottom and lost all the money in space of 10 mins playing 4 black jack hands 7k one after another losing it all.

I have still continued to lose money now through the rest of these years I would estimate at least another £30,000 at the time of writing this post I have just lost another £4000 until I’ve finally decided I really do need help. My mum took her own life and I don’t know my dad so I am on my own fortunately enough I have a mortgage at my age and still have savings of around £6000 but I always say to my girlfriend I don’t feel like my life begins again till I have back that £28,000 I lost in a night. I just really want to take my life and let this emotionally rollercoaster and pain and suffering be done as my mother hung herself I plan to do the same I have found the same tree as her and even brought a rope from eBay I have no emotion left in me I can’t even cry I’ve literally had enough

you are clearly struggling to cope with your mothers suicide which is a seperate issue to the gambling addiction but you are fusing them into one almighty wave of emotion and dispair which is going to be too much for anyone to cope with

i strongly suggest you ring the smaritians as soon as possible tel: 116 123

after speaking to them i would go to see the doctor and get yourself referred for some specialist councilling

Hi,

I am extremely sorry and sad to hear about your mothers suicide and the hard times you have been through.

Please do not even think about doing this yourself you still have so much life to live and you can turn it around.

As the above user said, call samaritans 116 123 and they will listen to your story and give you the best advice.

A lot of us have had hard times on here and times where we have felt we can't go on but when you get through it believe me there is so much to live for.
Take care,
SG

Dear Liam,

You express feeling very low and you write very clearly and movingly about your experience with gambling, about losing your mum, about suicide.

You also say that you feel alone. We are very happy to support you, Liam. You can get in contact with us directly by email if you wish, we have just contacted you. You may also want to talk this through with your girlfriend to make sure that you have someone with you.

SG already posted the number for the Samaritans. They are always good to talk to. Here it is again 116 123.

You are not alone, Liam. We are here for you.

Kind wishes

Gabriele

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through such a desperate time. First off, please if you are suicidal diall 999 and they will get you help at your local hospital. You clearly need support and you can't get through this on your own. I'm here to tell you that you can get though this although at the moment you might not believe it. Many of us on this site have been where you are. As for the money it's meaningless comapred to your life. Money comes and goes and you'll get over the losses eventually. I know from my own battles with mental heath that when I was rock bottom I needed support. Don't see it as a weakness, see it as a strength. One thing I know is that the mind lies to you, don't trust it when you're suffering. There will be happy days ahead of you and you will be a stronger person for it. At such a young age, you are clearly very responisble. My dad never sought help with his gambling and it killed him. You have a long life ahead of you and if you accept now that the money's gone and there's no way you'll get it back that will be a great starting point.

You're not alone. People do care. Go and see your doctor. Tell him how you're felling.

I wish you all the best

Stu

Liam I don't think this is about money. You have lost many important people in your life. Calm ( campaign against living miserably) 0800 585858 is an organisation helping young men in crisis. Call or go online. Please get some help.
