It's crazy how in your own head you can go from so dedicated to the cause to 'Just £20 will be fine'. Luckily my smart phone is out of action at the moment so I couldn't login and bet there and then. I thought of my partner and how great it felt to tell her all the bills have been paid before time (rather than trying to scrap together fund the day before) and reminded myself that, in the long run, betting really isn't an enjoyable experience.. Yeah there may be a few highs but at the end of the day I always end up with nothing.
Luckily my logic beat my addiction and I went around a mates house for a few hours rather than being sat at home on my own.
Sounds stupid but 1 week (with a payday) is going to be a great feeling tomorrow.
Enjoy your long weekend!!!
Yes and you have to sit down, analyse it and discuss it as you are doing here. You need your smart phone out of action Argie100 and you must discuss it again with your partner.
You need to focus on what gambling did to you. Just £20 wont be fine as you will lose that straight away and then the chasing will start. Keep focusing that they will take every pound off you and this is your mind playing tricks. Its not a get it back later scheme
Think of what you have lost. Discuss what you have lost. Its not an income scheme and it never was. Why would you give your money away like that. Compulsive gamblers will play to extinction because its a complex addiction and illness
If you leave any doors open your mind may trick you again. Its all got to be shut down and you may have to have a basic phone until all your counselling falls into place.
Keep busy and start a hobby. Join clubs that take you out into the countryside. Anything from all the things that make life more enjoyable.
I know being gamble free is a better life. You may have thoughts but you learn to brush them off and counter them immediately that you will just lose your money. Eventually they fade away so they dont bother you.
Best wishes
Thanks for the advice. I'm sticking to an old phone (no access to the Internet) as this is another block against lapsing. I already have a pretty active/social lifestyle so I'm quite lucky I don't have a lot of time on my hands. I'm currently going to the extreme with keeping an eye on my money, noting down every outgoing so I can see it's all being used the right way, hopefully this will make me value my money more. I have also treated myself and my partner to a spa break in a couple weeks as I was loosing in excess of £200 a week so thought why not treat myself with some of the money I haven't lost :).
