https://www.gamstop.co.u k">GAMSTOP is now live! At last; a way to realistically exclude ourselves from online gambling for 5 years. Not all gaming operators have signed up yet - but they all will, in time. It's a great service that's really going to help us.

But, like all new services, it's going through a few teething problems (it happens). Here's what to do if you're finding it difficult to register.

ONLINE - Some of us trying to register have had problems getting through the security questions. The reasons for this are manyfold but, if you simply can't get the registration to work, you'll have to try another way for now. If you ARE lucky enough to register online, then it only takes 5 minutes!

BY WEBCHAT - The webchat isn't working correctly at the moment; you won't get an instant response through the site. You'll receive a reply through e-mail instead which is a time-consuming way to communicate and therefore perhaps not very practical. You won't be able to confirm security checks this way either; therefore, I recommend you try...

BY PHONE - Here's the best way to register if you can't get your GAMSTOP registration to work. Here are the steps:

1. Phone 0800 138 6518. You'll get through straight away. Operators are - as they say - "standing by!"

2. Provide your name, home address and e-mail address. You'll be e-mailed and will need to provide and return, for ID purposes, the following:

(a) a photo of your passport / driving licence, with your photo in view.

(b) a photo of yourself holding the passport / driving licence. Don't worry if the passport detail is unclear; it's really just another facial recognition double check.

(c) a photo (scan) of a recent bill, to prove that you live at the address you gave details of on the phonecall.

These items can be e-mailed from a smart phone, or scanned from a printer and e-mailed back. Or, printed and posted off - I'd use registered post if you choose this route.

Ok - it's a bit of an overhead to do all this, but, at the end of the day, this is a new system just released and there are bound to be bugs as it goes into (effectively) beta live testing. It's a case of - how much do we want to be gambling free? Is it worth it?

My opinion is that it is worth it. This could make a huge difference to so many of our lives.

If anyone is still struggling to register, or has any other question then you're welcome to ask me - I'll try by best to help. For the record, I've chosen to register by phone - I wasn't able to get past the security checks when trying online.

All the best!

Hiya All, I just self-excluded myself from an online site, and during my conversation with them, they just gave me a code to get a year free on GamBan. This is now installed on my phone. I thought this was a very good responsible thing for the site to do. I too tried to get onto GamStop but hit a brick wall with the questions for itentity checks.
