Hi all 🙂

I have recently been offered a house, and I've accepted it - but now they've asked for bank statements and I'm really worried about what will happen when they see the gambling as it does look really bad.

I stopped gambling altogether recently, and I've put time outs in place etc, but im really worried the housing association will say I'm too much of a risk and will reject me.

Have any of you been in this situation? What happened when they saw your transactions?

Thank you in advance!

Hiya

I've not had an experience of this but all I would say is that to avoid any regret, honesty is the best policy. In recovery it's amazed me how people act to honesty in a good way. I always think to myself there is only one truth in each situation or a thousand different lies and that was my past. If I tell the truth then I've done my part in any situation. My side of the street is clean.

That's not advice, only my own opinion.

Is it a house you’re buying or renting from a housing association? I do think honesty is the best policy and I don’t think it’s going to be a big issue.

@kaoj91ymxz hi Chan, I would be renting from a housing association. I did actually end up emailing housing this morning (with the help of chatgpt!) and they emailed me back first thing saying it was moving forward and I will be signing up soon, so everything should be OK from here on out!

I think if you point out you are in recovery then there is little they can do and like Chan said, it shouldn't make a difference

@lp5vut869c thank you! I always planned to be honest, I guess im just more concerned about the perceived judgement and consequences, but at the moment it seems like things are going to be OK after all.

@lp5vut869c I did let them know that I've been communicating with GamCare and that seemed to help 🙂

@0mu5sr84ky it will be ok and I’m happy to hear all of this. I do have friends that have been renting and we’re gambling and they showed they were getting help and the housing association was very supportive.
