Hi Everyone

I am looking to find out whether anyone has ever tried hypnotherapy for a gambling addiction?

If so, did it help? Was it successful? Would you recommend it?

Any information would be great.

Hello Whip94,

Some of our forum members may have found hypnotherapy helpful, some may have found it only a little helpful for a while, and some may have found it not helpful at all. As with other forms of treatment, many different factors may have a bearing on whether there is a good outcome, for example, how resolved the client might feel about embracing change, or how caught they might feel by conflicting motivations.

Free treatment is available through GamCare and other treatment providers like the National Problem Gambling Clinic, but not hypnotherapy, as professionals working with addiction are more often trained in approaches like 'Motivational interviewing' or 'Cognitive Behavioral Therapy' and other ways of working.

If you particularly want to see a hypnotherapist, we would suggest that you consider the services of trained, qualified and supervised professionals who are registered with professional organisations like the UKCP, where practitioners are obliged to follow professional standards of ethical and competent practice, and where there are complaint procedures available if you aren't happy as a customer of their services.

If you'd like to know more about our free treatment appointments please call us on 0808 8020 133.

Take care,

Forum admin.
