For at least 10 years i have had a bad problem which swamps my day to day life, this is my final measure to hopefully put a stop to it. I thought i would share some useful info on trying to preventing gambling.

This time round I have done the following:-

BANK BLOCK

This does not work banks offer this, you can get transactions that have happened before blocked from future transactions. However, this does not block you signing up to a new gambling account online and depositing.

SELF EXCLUDE PRO ACTIVELY

Next, i gathered a list of all online bookmakers stuck them into a spreadsheet and replaced all their names with support@ as 9 times out of 10 most services operate with support email addresses.

After I had completed the above created an email blind carbon copied all the 400 odd bookmakers made myself the recipient titled the email self-exclude, with the body of the email containing my details email date of birth etc.

I have only done this today, with lots of replies self excluding me, which is good, but then other firms resilient wanting more info etc.

Anyhoo, I’m going to continue to update the list and continue to perform this action every so often provided i don’t fall of apple cart.

Let me know if you would like the list!!!!

A global self-exclusion would definitely be useful.

Last year I closed a number of my online gambling accounts and there was a big diversity in how easy this process was. Some it could be done directly on the site - a few clicks and a tick box to confirm I was absolutley sure and that was it. At the other end of the spectrum at least one bookmaker with a big high street presence wouldn't let me self-exclude online, so after submitting a written request I had to phone up (lines only open during certain hours and seemingly not that well staffed) and they made is more uncomfortable than it needed to be by asking why I was doing this, etc.

I don't want to praise any specific bookie as they're all parasites but I did like Sky Bet's process - I could self-exclude online and they allowed some granularity - e.g. I self-excluded from their online casino but kept open the element which allows you to do Fantasy Football teams and the like.

I tried this tonight with about 20 new casinos and only 2 got rejected for being wrong emails. Amazing!!

Now if only I could access a list of all current Casinos. I guess I will just have to work through as many as possible each night and hope an urge doesn't crop up.
