Checking in Day 12. Never made oxtail soup, but got some oxtails simmering away in a pan. Sorry, that may seem a rather strange comment but seem to be substituting ridiculous eating for gambling, both self destructive. Managed to pick up some ready prepared leeks and potatoes which had been reduced to 19p, so they will go in the pot too. I need to get a handle on it. So going to make a healthy, hopefully tasty, soup. Will also take some to my dad who has alzheimers and only eats well if I provide the meals. Hope everyone has a good day x

*** LATEST ROLLCALL for the 100 DAY CHALLENGE ***

Welcome to our group where 31 magnificent hardy souls are choosing life over misery, day by day. Our aim is to get to 100 days gambling free (GF). Fancy joining us? Just drop us a post!

  • For members of our group still Gambling Free, and with at least 64 days GF - *** DAY 64 COMPLETE! *** Start date: 14th Dec 2016, End Date: 24th March 2017. Two-thirds of the way through our challenge...!
  • For our members who've had a wobble, and have had the courage and fortitude to tell us, thank you for your honesty and it shows your character and determination that you are right back in the saddle - more than doubly committed this time.
  • For our members with less than 64 days GF under their belts, let's see how you're getting on below! You are doing great and the rest of us will wait for you at the finish line, cheering you on!

Here is the lowdown, or, should I say, the highlights! There has been a bit of jiggery-pokery that I'll explain the other side of this table. As always, the first set of figures relate to your personal consecutive GF total, and the second relates to how many days you've chalked up on this challenge.

31 woodley 53 / 53 … 27/12/2016 --> 06/04/2017

*** ROLLCALL OF SUCCESS *** - Woodley, congratulations for passing through the 50 day barrier, well, storming through it actually. And LHN, your big 5-0 is tomorrow; it's a great achievement. It's worth taking a moment out to say "I did well there!" and then grit your teeth, ready for the next day, and day after that. We never, never drop our guard!

*** SATURDAY WEBCHAT *** The excellent webchat facility provided by Gamcare opened up on a Saturday afternoon for the first time (in several years) this afternoon. It was well attended and if any of our group fancy dropping in to say hi, or need any gambling support, why not visit. It's a really friendly place, hard-hitting at times - because we are keen to help ourselves, and others, stay on a GF course - but just the tonic if your need that extra bit of resolve top-up.

*** ROLLCALL UPDATE *** I've carried out my fortnightly rollcall checks, team, and sadly have had to 'rest' six of us as I have not heard from them for 2 weeks or more. I've checked this thread, diaries and the 2017 challenge (some of us update there). We all wish you well, and if you wish to come back, of I've made a mistake, then please let me know. As always, where there's a yang, there's always a bit of ying, and I've added Emily 82 and Allana to our group. Allana - I just need your GF count to date, if you wouldn't mind letting me know. Welcome ladies!

*** STATISTICS SO FAR ***

You might find this interesting. I've been crunching the numbers and here's whats been happening in the 64 days since this challenge started, back on 14th December 2016.

  • 42 of us have joined the 100 day challenge since it started
  • 11 have left the group since; 10 of whom because they lapsed (didn't update us for over 2 weeks so have been 'rested') and 1 by request
  • 6 of us have told us that they have had a relapse, 4 of whom are still in our group, extra determined to succeed.
  • Out of the 42 who have joined the challenge, 31 remain.
    • 15 have been GF for at least 64 days (36% of members who started the challenge)
    • 16 have been GF for up to 63 days (39% of members who started)
    • 11 have left our group (25% of members who started)

What do these figures tell us? Basically one-third of us have been GF since at least the start of the challenge. 4 out of 10 of us are currently GF and building a total. 1 in 10 of us have had a wobble and honest enough to admit it. And a quarter of us, by virtue of losing contact with our group, are deemed to have maybe wobbled.

In a nutshell, it's a rule of three! One-third have at least 64 days GF (when the challenge was launched); one-third are currently GF, and one-third have wobbled. Although, there is a special place in our group for those of us who have wobbled and are 'back in the saddle'. It takes courage, and honesty, that. You are part of our 'currently GF' group because you are extra determined; your posts bear this out. For example, Rhoda - you're terrific, not just realising the importance of your blip but the help you've given to others. And so many of our group have done just that, the support we give to others is amazing.

Let's keep digging in as we march through February (... if that makes sense..!). Spring will soon spring and those longer nights, warm days and everything springing into colour will put an extra spring in our steps. (That's enough springs!).

*** THANKS SBB *** for your inspirational thoughts on both your own and this thread. They are very motivating indeed.

And thank you everyone for updating your dairies and checking in here... you're doing just great. And let's not forget our loved ones, they want us GF, and really deserve it too. Finally, here's...

*** JOKE OF THE DAY ***

This story is true, John Humphies recalled it not long ago.

Right at the end of a Radio 4 program recently, there was a discussion about
the obscene cost of entry into Premiership football games, the cheapest
price of £60 and £100 per game not being uncommon.

An older chap being interviewed said he could recall many years ago
arriving at the turnstiles (it was probably Southampton): "That
will be £10 mate".

"What?!" the old chap said "I could get a woman for that!"

The guy on the turnstile retorted, "Not for 45 minutes each way with a
brass band and a meat pie in the interval, you wouldn't!"

🙂

I'm so sorry Mixer. I've let you down big time by relapsing.

I've had such a terrible time of it recently with family/work issues.

It's no excuse, but it ultimatly led me back to the dark path of gambling....

Thank you for accepting me in your special challenge. I truly appreciate what it did for me.

Believe it or not, despite my relapses, it has improved me massively.

However, I do not wish to carry on with it as it does you a disservice to the hard work and effort that you put in.

Thanks for everything mate. Keep it up!

Thank you for your honesty Moorey and let me say this...

You haven't let ME down at all. Because, the fact is, this a very personal journey to you, and we're a team. And team members look out for one another. Please consider coming back, rejoining our group, because we don't want to give up on you. You've got issues, for sure, and if you want to talk about them, or, if not, just want to talk in more general terms, then the team, we, are here. We don't judge; we know that gambling is often a symptom of something else. We don't need to know what it is. We just want to try and get you GF because, whatever's going wrong, you've got a better chance of sorting it if you're GF, rather than the alternative.

We respect you whatever you decide, Moorey. Just remember we're here, mate; OK - unconditionally.

Im an old romantic, with my poetry and all, but I came across this one this morning while doing some research.

It certainly works for me 🙂

There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask, "What if I fall?"
Oh, but my darling,
What if you fly?

Have a poisitive day folks

Thanks Mixer, it means a lot to still have your support.

If you're ok for me to continue on this challenge, then I shall.

Nobody said it was going to be easy. I guess I'm not the first to relapse a few times.

Here's to my 4th attempt. More blocks in place and will tell my girlfriend this week about my journey ahead and my past.

Thanks again!
