Well done for not succumbing Mixer, but don't get complacent. Transfer that money out the account so it is less accessible x

Tonight, I was meant to see my counsellor, but for work reasons, simply too busy, I was unable to.

When I left work, at 7;30pm, I was at a loose end. With a debit card with cash available - the cash I've saved not gambling. Several hundred pounds.

The devil on my shoulder said: have a gamble! You've been 80 - 80 days - gambling free! You deserve it!

My god I have been tempted tonight. I am sitting in a pub, several pints in, and hanging in there.

Why? How? God knows. But I have resisted. I thought it would get easier; but the devil is strong. But ... I am resisting. Tonight's been tough though. Three unconnected things have got me through. In no particular order; JayD; my god you hang in there and update every single day. How can I let you down? Two, Sbb, such a calming influence. And three, my wife and son. Who do not need nor deserve any c**P from me. I would give them everything I have.

I'm writing this because I understand how difficult this can be. I'm hanging in there. Today was tough. I forget that it's easy to stop when you've spent all of your money - but a damned sight harder when you haven't!

But... we keep going.

Im up early for a flight, but stopped to say well done.

The addiction will bite harder and harder as you have it on the run.

Look on it like a heavyweight boxer....coming out for the last round...............his corner have told him he is miles behind on points and to give it all he has got !

Swinging wildly with all his might, if one of these despairing swipes hits his opponent, it will cause a knockout.

But the opponent is wise, he knows he has been winning for a long time now.

The opponent is strong, and knowing he has the other guy where he wants him, is if anything getting stronger.

So he stays aware of the potential danger of the ex champion, once his victor, now a sad defeated has been, destined to be gone and forgotten for good.

Never complacent, but confident in his own ability and clear on his goals the boxer raises his arms in celebration - another battle one, another step to where he wants to be !

Hang tough Champ.

Thank you all very much for your support, and you'll be pleased to know I resisted. A bit hangovered this morning, I'll admit, but still with cash in my pocket! I'm working in London today, and you're right Rhoda, I've been over-confident, so I took just enough cash for my rail fare and £20 float. The enemy has been hovering around and time to be extra vigilant. Thanks for your wonderful post Sbb, and encouragement JayD, Markman and Moorey!

I'll be updating with a rollcall tonight; it'll be a late one (out tonight but no alcohol or opportunity to gamble!)

Thank you everyone for checking in and keeping strong! As you know, I nearly had a wobble last night, because I found myself in a very strange situation. When I started this challenge, at the end of November, I was £800 overdrawn. This had gone down to about £400 by the end of December, and then about £100 at the end of January. Here I am, near the end of February, and I've got £300 in credit - a most unusual situation! I've been spending more money, on good things, and still in credit! My point is, I'm not used to it, and the gambling devil was urging me to spend it.

That fact is, I need to bring back the strict controls I started with at the end of November to force the situation because it's a new one for me. So my card remains at home at all times, and I just take out the cash I need. I'm in Birmingham all next week, and I'm just taking a fixed amount of cash. It's the only way.

When I started this challenge, I thought to myself, why do people sometimes start when they're on Day 60, 70 or whatever? What triggered it? And one conclusion I can draw is - availability of funds accumulated through a lack of gambling! I would be interested in any strategies that help you, and may help the rest of us.

I feel chastened, though - I really, really understand how difficult this is. My earlier 'gung ho we can do this' attitude has changed. Now, it's about quietly, defiantly, cautiously confidently dealing with this monster day by day. Together in numbers, together in our fantastic group. Let's keep going for that better life. Tomorrow morning, we refuse to put a bet on. We like this new life. And we will reject any temptations and find NO excuse for buckling.

*** JOKE OF THE DAY *** - the best things in life are almost free, as you'll see when you read this classic ...

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and over £2million to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300°C.

The Russians, on the other hand ...

... used a pencil.

WCAWW!

The story is actually a myth. But the story behind it is really cool
Americans and Russians we're using pencils and the American taxpayer found out they were paying almost 2000 dollar's for each pencil? Any how a guy called fischer invented the pen that worked in zero gravity.
And sold it to each country for under 3 dollars a unit
