Hi,

My name is Russ and I have a terrible addiction to gambling!

I am currently struggling again having been completely gamble free for the past 6 months. I have lost roughly 4000 over the past 10 days, although most of this is winnings from the 1st night back on it, I am losing money at an alarming rate and am frightened to death of spiralling back out of control again.

I have been gambling for 30 years or more and can honestly say that the buzz I get from the highs are like nothing else.

I have put a block on my laptop but cannot seem to find an adequate block for my android phone(I did have gamblock but it made my phone just about unusable).

I have started this diary in the hope of discussing my problem with like minded people and convincing myself of what an idiot I become when gambling.

I have a wife and 2 kids who do not know about this problem and I do not want to know.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Ps I'm now nearly 1.5 hours clean,

Russ

Fella welcome to the forum,I hope it gifts you in the same way it has gifted me.

A great source of inspiration.

My advice simple

If the phone is the one issue in your life then get a phone without any internet access, they cost less than a ten pound note and do what they say on the tin

They allow you to call and text.

To relieve the ability to gamble,to gift you and those loved ones a better life

One without the futile act of gambling in it.

Abstain and maintain

Duncs stepping forward never back

Unfortunately back to day 2 again. I have however reinstalled gamblock on all of my devices and am absolutely determined to stay off it this time.

Same old feelings as always, but nothing that I can do when the urge gets me.

This time!

Try K9 blocking software. It will work off most devices. I'm not sure how Gamblock works, but K9 will require password on computers or passcode on phones/tablets. I requested my partner set password/passcode so if i do have an urge to gamble I will be unable to access any sites, and better still unable to re-install as you would need password or passcode to go through to Admin settings.

I am currently on Day19, and I am feeling better about life without gambling. This software is key to my recovery.

Hi mutton

I am not too familiar with blocking software but it seems like something which would help you greatly, as gambling on your phone appears to be one of your pitfalls. I hope that you can start to clock up the days and see how good a life without betting can be for a compulsive gambler. Also the urges fade if you can stay strong for a few minutes I find (may be different for me however). I had one earlier today at around 6pm. I just know for a fact that win or lose today I will certainly lose over the next week because once I start I cannot stop.

Good luck pal, Myles

Thanks to everyone for their support. I'm now on day 5 and have not really come close to cracking so far this time round, although have had a really busy weekend. I tend to find that the worst times are when I have nothing to do(And obviously money in my account).

Do what I did. I cut the internet off at home and only have 500mb data on my phone. so gambling online has totally stopped its the only way. I go to my dads if I need to get on the internet.

Day 9. Feeling good, not even come close to gambling so far. I just hope I can keep it up.

Good luck to everyone who has to go through this.

Day 12 and still going strong. Feels good at the moment but payday on the 31st, if I can overcome that it will be a big relief.

Stay strong everyone.

Back again.

I haven't really had more than 1 week away from gambling since my last post(4 months ago). Thankfully I haven't lost too much money as I had several really big wins in this time and so until the past week have been playing with the casinos money.

I feel now as though I have got to do something about this addiction quickly as it is starting to take over my life again.

I have gambled all of my life(Dad and Grandad were bookmakers), but only really became addicted about 10 years ago. I am determined to succeed this time and would welcome any tips from people on here that have found a way to overcome their problem.

I have installed all of the blocking devices on phones/ laptops/ tablets, but as I'm sure other people will agree there is always a way round it.

I have just bought one of those ceramic saving jars and am planning on putting £10 a day in every time I update this diary, and then hopefully I can buy something for the family by the time it is full.

What gets me is that I can feel really positive about not gambling and think that I am on the right road, and then an hour later I am putting my 3rd £200 deposit into an online casino and it feels like the most natural thing in the world to do. It is only afterwards that I get the feelings of guilt and start thinking logically again.

I am the sort of person that doesn't like to let people down(sounds pretty ironic all things considered!), and was wondering if there was any sort of sponsorship scheme operating on here whereby I would have to report to another member each day

and vice versa to encourage each other to keep going?

As said previously any tips/advice/support would be really appreciated.

Regards

Russ
