I've gambled since I was 16 and God only knows how much money I've lost in the 24 years I've gambled. The realisation is I'm never going to win from the bookies and despite some big wins the inevitable happens and within a few days they've had it all back. I now know and hope I've come to a time in my life where I have to stop before it really breaks me. So for me this is day one, I've gambled today and will not gamble again. 23/02/19 is a special day in my life, it's the day when I stopped gambling.

Brilliant news Dave. Make sure you put stops in place to help you, like gamstop and multi exclusion. Remember you are not alone in this battle. This community will help you when the going gets tough. Onto day 2.

CJ.

Cheers guys, woke up feeling good. Think I'll go for a run this morning. Positive thoughts. I will not gamble today #day 2.

Hi Jimmy, I hope you’re ok. Why don’t you start a new diary on this section of the forum by clicking ‘New Topic’ on the left hand side of the screen. You could go into some detail about what your gambling issues are and some history behind it. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of supportive, encourgaing and informative posts that’ll help to kickstart your recovery.

Dan

Hi Dave, hope you’re good. Well done on taking the decision to stop gambling.

Have you put any blocks in place to help aid your recovery? If not, may I recommend ‘Gamstop’ if you gamble online. It’s a site that you register your details to and it’ll block you from pretty much all online betting/casino sites that are regulated in the UK.

Good luck with the run today. I, myself, am also a keen runner too. Though I’ve not been quite as active as I would’ve liked recently.

My issue is with online sports betting. I have now used GAMSTOP for the maximum amount of time of 5years. I seriously need to stop. I'm a keen runner, and I've entered a few races. Need to focus on this for the time being. Thanks for the encouragement.

A gentle 10K thinking about everything I've lost and missed out on whilst gambling. I know I have to stop for my own sanity. I've caused this, so I have to put it right. On to tomorrow.

3 days gamble free. Tough day yesterday afternoon, as that is when I'd normally gamble. One day at a time.

You are doing well. It gets better the more days you get under your belt.

Interesting lyrics just came up on an album I am listening to which I think sums up how we all need to deal with this addiction....

‘We can do anything if we put our minds to it.

Take your old life and put a line through it.’

One day at a time.

Great work so far, and just like running the 10k, each day of joy gambling is another metre forward... I couldn't run 10 K without collapsing, even though I ran a marathon once upon a time.

Keep strong but also take the time to write, and read the experiences of others, a relapse is only a day away, so ensure physical and psychological restraints are in place.

I look forward to your 10k days gamble free... (approx 25 years if my math serves me well...)
