Well I've certainly cried enough in recovery and at meetings but that's not the topic.
Freedom
Now I had this written down to discuss some time ago. I've made a friend in recovery who is quite frankly amazing called Lewis. He's been to the depths of this addiction, been to prison and is now two years gamble free running a Tiktok account to help people and doing volunteer peer support along with Good Mind Circles walk and walks. He rings me literally every day and is always there. So on Thursday he finished his probation and is a free man so is well advised on this subject. I had hoped to be in a more knowledgeable position to write what it means to me but I'm not there.
So I would love to hear what freedom means to you. For me, early on in this journey it's freedom from the chaos. The chaos that was running in my brain for years with numbers flying around, slots spinning, dreams of gambling, just 24/7 pain, stopped immediately 241 days ago. I have freedom from the lies, the cons, the manipulation which stopped. Freedom Freedom that life has got so much better and given me choices each day. Freedom from the need to gamble and that all encompassing urge to place more bets. Freedom from the worry of where is the next lot of money coming from. Freedom to know what Stuart thinks isn't right and to lean on others. Freedom to express my thoughts and feelings which were submerged for so many years. Freedom to wake each day and know I have a choice. Freedom to love, be kind, to give and support.
Freedom from the bet.
I have no doubt freedom will bring more to my table in the future but I would love to hear what it means to you right now.
