I'm right with you in keeping away from the evil fobts. Have you put any blocks in place eg self exclusion? Would you consider counselling? When I stopped for a decent period before I eventually drifted back cos I hadn't addressed issues making me gamble in the first place. Might be worth thinking about at some point?

10 years ago I lost a lot of money on them. Had no interest at all in going back then Boom... About 18 months ago started back just on and off. Used my savings so no one knew. Had a few bereavements to very close family and that was a trigger for me. Anyway, got worse and it became a daily thing. I've lost a few grand now and the alarm bells are going off like mad so it's time to stop. Closed account and not been on for almost a week 🙂 I have absolutely no intention in going on again so here's to passing the 10 years this time and not going back. Learn from my experience if you can and never think you have this licked and start dropping your guard. CG's always have this compulsion and it can jump back into your life if you let it like it did mine. Find your triggers if you can, with help if needed and address them. Find other interests that give you a buzz. Could be anything you like but don't go back. You cannot win, even a big win will be frittered away over time because you cannot stop wanting the buzz off the chase. Stay strong, I am. Today is another day and I will not let FBOT's back in my life ! In answer to the last question above I did have many 1 to 1 sessions with a therapist which helped and as I said I was clean for over 10 years. If I slip again I will go back to them but at the moment I'm determined to beat this once and for all. I am stronger than this ! Good luck to you all in your personal fight, I know we can do it 🙂

Day nine and the sun is shining. It's going to be another gamble free day for me. I did have a bit of reflection time last night and looked at not just my gambling habits but my personality in general. Seems that I'm Mr all or nothing in everything I do. From eating a whole packet of buiscuts once they are open to having to spend thousands on FOBT's. Some people can control this side of them yet i seem to struggle, why is that? I guess as I take my journey through recovery I may find the answers. In the meantime I'm content with taking one day at a time and looking forward to a FOBT free future. My name is Newey and I will be FOBT free today.

Good luck!

Great stuff Newey, one of the beefits of being so compulsive is that it is possible to become compulsive about recovery. Like you, i find it hard to co anything by halves and try to focus that energy on each gamble free day one day at a time! Well done and keep chosing to be gamble free!

Hi Newey,

Thank you for posting on my diary. I really do appreciate your support and encouragement. I can completely relate to what you say about having a compulsive personality. I am exactly the same. This is great when it comes to healthy pursuits like exercising but not so good with destructive compulsions like gambling! You have done amazing things with your recovery in the past and have started to do the same again. 🙂

With my very best wishes.

Dave

Double digits tomorrow:)

My name is Newey and today I have been FOBT free. I'm finding the posts on this site very helpful and some very moving. I've just read the Sticky about the lovely lady who passed away from cancer after supporting many people on this site over many years. Very humbling and moving. I count myself fortunate not to be in debt or have and credit cards maxed out but this would not be the case if I had carried on with this addition. My personal savings took a big hit but I'm recovering from that. I suppose we all have our reasons for gambling and we all think we are going to be the one to hit that big jackpot..... Never happens does it ! And whatever we do win gets placed right back in the gaming industries pocket. It's time to draw a line in the sand so to speak and be strong enough to stay away. Good night all 🙂

Tomorrow will be another FOBT free day for me
