Day 1 , after losing all my money yesterday I’m still very numb today , irritable , annoyed , anxious about the future , I’ve been here many times before , I just hope maybe this time it’s different. I’m gonna keep this journal and post in it everyday if I can. It’s a strange time we live in at the moment. But I feel I’ve lived this strange time last 6 years since I was 16. Don’t really know what to do with myself today. Anxiety is through the roof tho as I sit here doing nothing. However , Day 1....

Hi Glenn,

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to read that you’re struggling but today can be the day where you map out a new and different future for yourself.

Why don’t you take the opportunity today to read stories of recovered gambling addicts and how they’ve turned their lives around. Also, take stock of where you are and what you’ll need to do to change and leave the destruction of gambling behind in your past forever.

Make the decision to quit for good, forgive yourself for past actions and take the time that you have now to plan for a better future. At this point, all of us having nothing but time and not a lot to do. Make the most of this time.

I wish you well.

RR

Yes I’ve read through several and they’ve given me motivation and guidance. Only motivation I should need is that I don’t want to live this miserable existence anymore but I know this addiction is far more sneaky and insidious then just pure not wanting to do something. Hayestown100 honesty in his diary has made me want to do my own that way .

Dear HopingForAFuture,

Welcome to the Forum and thank you for posting so honestly on this your first day of your gambling recovery.

I can understand you feeling overwhelmed at the moment and I think you've made a really positive step in firstly acknowledging this and secondly by reaching out to others for support.

If you have not already done so, it could be helpful to put some practical measures in place; gambling blocks which will restrict your access to gambling and limit the money you have available to gamble, and may help you to feel that you are starting to take back some control over your situation.

It might also be useful longer term to consider some treatment support. Treatment is about looking at the bigger picture of your gambling so takes in to account any underlying issues, contributing factors, triggers for gambling and so on.

If you would like to talk more about any of these options and any additional support that may be available, please feel free to get in touch anytime (24/7) our netline (web chat) or free helpline on 0808 8020 133.

Wishing you all the very best,

Helen

So sad for you Glenn. Everyone on the diaries can identify with how you must be feeling.

The good news is that you want to put a stop to the gambling and rebuild your life.

It will take courage, determination and a lot of good old common sense and only you know if you have what it takes to follow your dream.

It is good to see you keeping a diary to record your progress and you interacted very well with those in the chatroom yesterday.

I have found gamcare friends to be very supportive. They come in all shapes and sizes and are very special. Good people battling to free themselves from the tyrannical influence of gambling addiction.

Wishing you every happiness as you navigate through day two of your wonderful, life changing adventure.

Cheers Stephen and ye day 3 ahead of me know , it was tough yesterday but went outside the back garden with my mother and sister and had some really nice conversations , this would have never happened while I was gambling. It’s crazy how much it draws a person in and that’s all they can see in life when there in that mindset and zone. But as I said day 3 ahead now and feeling positive.
