Hi Gav,

good on you mate. 2 weeks chalked up !. I still have a cold too - its kids i think, the little blighters infect you with everything !.

Glad to hear you sounding positive and resolute. You are definitely right in the advice you gave earlier about "the urges getting less strong and less frequent" as recovery continues. I literally dont think about gambling except in the recovery sense at all now. I hope the same thing is happening for you too - recovery is easier when its a case of dealing with the aftermath only, not the aftermath as well as the urges too.

Keep it up mate !.

FM.

Thanks Triangle, def feeling a lot more positive but realise how easy it is to slip.

Thankfully the urges are going away , but we always need to be on guard!

I've come to realise that I cannot win by gambling, no matter what i win, it always goes back in and more. I accept that now, I have an allergy to gambling.

Keep strong.

Will be 21 days tomorrow without a gamble!

Things going well, was off thurs and fri, friday had a lot of temptations in place, out in my home town watching golf, drinking, out for lunch then more golf. I picked a pub which didnt have a machine to play and likewise a restaurant without machines.

I found it okay to have a few drinks and not gamble and I am at a stage now where i dont want to gamble.

This may change in future so i have to always be strong.

I have found myself spending quite a bit of money however, drink, food, golf etc. So my target of being debt free by xmas might not be achievable, I also felt guilty of spending the money, even though i wasnt gambling it. Anyway i had a fab few days off and didnt gamble.

Now its back to porridge , in work and back to saving.

Hi Gav,

So 22 days today mate !. You are now staring down the barrels of a month clean. Good man.

We spoke earlier of getting to a place where you dont consider gambling an option, and you feel more like its something you *used to do* not something you are still doing - it really sounds from your posts now that you are getting there (enjoying down time doing other things, being able to have a couple of drinks without reaching for the casinos etc) so thats great news to hear. I am still conflicted - I dont think thats unusual as gambling isnt really something you would ever look back at fondly is it - with regard to digging myself out of the hole I put myself in, but I think the important thing is that its much, much easier to choose and keep choosing NOT to gamble, once you have broken the initial cycle. I am pleased to hear you sounding like this is where you are also.

Keep up the good work fella, Im not posting as regularly as I would like, but I do look up your diary every time I briefly log in.

Stay Strong.

FM.

Thanks for the post lad.

Yes 22 days , Im feeling a lot more comfortable now, and yes feel like im at a place where gambling is not an option! It something I cant control and always ends up in misery.

Therefore I choose not to do it. The cycle has been broken, but theres no room for complacency, I've been there before and have slipped. I dont want that to happen again. But currently Im at a good place, sounds liks we both are.

Long may it continue!

Keep strong all!

Well done Gav keep it going strong mate.

Breaking Bad is definitely the best series I have watched in a long long time. It doesnt really heat up till season 2, if you think its good now wait till season 2 kicks in.

Ive also done - the entirety of the Sopranos (I never really got into it when it aired, but really enjoyed it this time around). Weeds (weeds is excellent - not as good as Breaking Bad but close, its more funny less dark, but also less thrilling at the same time). Under the Dome ... didnt really like that, gave up halfway through first season. Oh - and "its always sunny in philidelphia" thats absolute top notch - I watched the first two episodes of season one and it wasnt grabbing me, but i persevered and it just got more and more hilarious, you need that in your life.

Anyway, theres a few there to watch if you havent already - Breaking bad is the best though.

Keep on keeping on mate.

FM.
