Hi Guys,
My name is Sam i am 20 years old and have gambled since the day i turned 18. Within the last year id say it has turned into problem gambling and started to live my life around it. Losing alot of money and everything started to fall apart. Social life, relationships etc. I have been suffering with mental health issues for a few years and i believe i gamble to mask the pain. Last week i decided to call my local gp and get some help. I have now got some counciling to help with the gambling and other issues. BUT the main thing about this post is what i believe is the best thing you SHOULD do.
I got a phonecall off my Mother and she confronted me about the gambling as she seen me getting down and not seeming to have any money. So mother’s instinct she knew something was wrong. Instead of being disappointed and annoyed she has been supportive and we have decided to nip this in the bud now before it gets out of hand. Even though it might be hard or you might not think it will help i can honestly say it will. I feel alot more relaxed and not as stressed with life now as i know i have some support. We are going to sort my financal side out and hopefully in 2018 i can live a happy and gamble free life. I currently havent gambled for nearly 2 weeks but i put my last gamble date as the last bank transaction from my bank. Hope you guys are well. All the best for 2018 and we can stop this.
Welcome sam
First off smart move having told your mom, you’re going to need a lot of support especially as you have mental health issues aswell.
Maybe get in contact with gamcare and have some free counselling sessions if you think that will help?
If addiction thrives on telling lies , recovery thrives on being honest not just to others but to yourself aswell.
This is the truth and I hope you can follow it . You can’t ever gamble again. What I mean by that is say in six months time you think I feel loads better I’ll just stick the odd coupon on or whatever. You can’t
There’s no gambling like a normal guy once the line is crossed.
I wish there was places like this site when I was your age , there wasn’t . Gambling truly is a mugs game and those who become addicted to it it’s even worse because we know the games are stacked heavily against us. But that’s addiction.
Sam i hope you can walk away now especially at 20 years old belive me it will get 100 times worse and some people lose everything. I’ll keep checking in to see how you’re doing.
For now all the best
And well done for your first 2 weeks
Affected by gambling?
