I won't bore you all to death with my "story". Let's just say that gambling has destroyed my soul, and plagued me for 11 years. To put that into perspective, 11 years makes up 100% of my adult life, and more than 33% of my entire life.
Today was the last day I gambled.
I know that I'm safe for another week or so, because I have no money left. But when the money arrives, so do the compulsions.
This diary is going to replace the way I deal with those compulsions. When I feel the magnetic tug of the bookmaker's slot machines calling my name, I am going to write a page here instead.
You might not see me here often. But when you do, it is guaranteed I will be in a f****d up mental state, so please be patient with me.
Thanks!
HI WreckedWriter,
You've made a start - you're here. And you've taken a 2nd step - you realise you've got a problem.
Step 3 - tell yourself you're not going to gamble today, or tomorrow.
And finally, Step 4- you can ban yourself from every bookies in the area. Why not give Gamcare a call and kick-start the new you. Time to choose life over misery eh!
Good luck, you can really do this. Time to enjoy life, not P - it up the wall and waste time on soulless slots and other rubbish.
Hi Wrecked Writer...how about committing to coming here daily, trying to not reach that bad mental state...better to use the site as a lifejacket to keep you afloat, rather than a life belt thrown to you when you are already drowning...only my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words, Mixer

Rhoda, I thought about this already, but thought "it's pointless because most days, I have no compulsions".
But I think maybe you're right. Maybe the more I get to know you guys, and the more I remind myself that I really am stopping this time, the easier the urges will be to deal with when they arrive.
I have bookmarked this forum.
Hi mate,
Welcome to the forum, although sorry for the reason you had to join. Starting to make positive steps towards recovery is just that, they are positive steps to take us in the right direction. I could drop a few other hackneyed cliches on there, but just remember that the money that's already been lost is water under the bridge.
Seriously though, you aren't the only one with long term problems, I've gambled or been trying to recover from gambling for most of my adult life too. With a combination of perseverance and planning to put the right blocks in place, you can beat it, just know that the temptation will come back, so be ready for it.
All the best,
Ryan
Had an urgent just now. Spent my energy remembering password for here instead. Urge passing.
