Today is day 24 and is the hardest day so far in this attempt to stop. I know I can’t gamble today as have put a stop on gambling transactions on my bank card but today I feel like gambling. I must not change the bank details to allow me to gamble in 48 hours.
I am aiming for 100 days at which point I hope my compulsion to gamble will have lessened and the benefits of not gambling e.g. being in the black (money wise) will be enough to keep me on the right path.
Good luck to everyone on your journeys. ?

@annie2016 Is there anything else that you are doing to help yourself?

Chris

Hi Chris,

i have previously signed up to gamban but unfortunately, it's not foolproof. I’m staying in contact with the gamban team in case this changes. I’ve used gamstop but ended up finding casinos not under gamstop regulations. I’ve told my closest friend but this led to an uncomfortable change in our relationship for several years and now we don’t ever mention gambling. I changed jobs at one point to ensure wasnt ever home alone during the day. I feel committed to this time and in real need of change having lost thousands.

@annie2016 some good things you’ve done already. It’s really difficult to just fight the urges though and all blocks are there to help you get past the urge because it will pass short term. There’s always a way around them so more is needed.

What I would suggest through my own experience is Gambler’s Anonymous. I find regular meetings are great for helping me go bet free week to week but also I learn a lot of strategies that make staying off a bet easier. Also, if I need to get something off my chest I can do so without judgement, as it’s life’s frustrations and not having an outlet that can and has sent me back to a relapse.
What do you think about finding a meeting?

Chris.
