Hi Irene,

I couldn't miss popping in and saying a massive well done on reaching 100 NOT OUT, what a great milestone to reach, In those 100 days you have not only been gamble free you have also been able to have a clear head to learn more about Irene, the person who got lost in gambling.

You have learnt that you are much stronger than you think and by asking for help it has only strengthen that resolve. You have learnt that there is so much more to life than gambling.

You have learnt that it's good to open up and talk and have used your diary wisely.

Take those 100 days and keep them close to you they are a great foundation to keep building up those days.

The next few months for you will involve lots of,change that can sometimes be tricky for us compulsive gamblers, keep close what you have learnt and keep going.

You have done brilliant.

Take care

Blondie xx

Wonderful news - you hit your first century of many.

Appreciate what you say about not asking for help as has always been my downfall which is why this forum is so helpful.

Contacted my insurer today as well about excess and increase ( premium is more than car is worth now) and they dropped it by over £60.00 immediately which, whilst I was pleased I was also angry as they must have hyped it up in the first place to be able to do that.

I have been practically immobile for over a year now and the Kindle has been a life saver. As I said I have had to store my books til I get summerhouse built and have over 190 books on my kindle, many of them daily deals which are 90p or free ones. I have two as the first one is old and didn't have a light and if you go to sleep it switches itself off. Pretty sturdy as my grandchildren play with it too.

Takes me into a fantasy world much like gambling if I find the right books. Have been reading a lot written by foreign authors about their experiences in the war in Siberia and Japan, makes you realise how lucky we are. A friend of mine is an author and he wrote a book about the atrocities in the Vietnam war and also about how the prisoners with HIV were treated in USA, quite hard core stuff and again how lucky are we although I know that makes no difference when the red mist comes over us.

I am so happy that you are achieving so much and thank you for your support, much appreciated.

xxx

Day 102

Grrrrrrr phone call at work from credit card company looking for money. CAB debt guru was out of office- I wonder when my payment plan will be in place. Got some great advice from folk in chatroom about how to deal with intrusive calls. (I expect there'll be more to come until plan's agreed). I admit that it did spark a bit of a "what if" thought at the time.....crazy thinking "what if" got me into this unmanageable debt! Blasted a CD and sang along to divert my thinking. Gambling will not solve my debt problem- or any other problems I may encounter.

On the financial note- took a tip from re and managed to save approx £120 on house insurance.

Still waiting for Boxing Day insurance complaint to be dealt with- ceiling still not mended! I will NOT pay an excess for damage caused by someone else......emmmm I CANNOT pay!!!

Son's been busy packing/ clearing. Scarey how much stuff he's amassed in his 25 years- old football tickets, photos, my father's wee handwritten notebook, a firework.......random rubbish that he's reluctant to bin. His gf's refusing to have his tat in their new house lol.

Still doing well with cigs- unfortunately, using choc as a replacement! Bought 4 x mugs for son today- cost less than 20 cigs!!!!

Despite moaning a bit, I feel content today. Looking forward to my usual Friday afternoon and added bonus of being my weekend off 🙂

Doing some 1 on 1 therapy and group therapy, it's been a saving grace, and I must give much do credit to finding this site. Good Morning,

Wow I cannot believe it was Monday I last posted in your diary! I often obsess about time and how it moves too quickly but this is why! Barely blinked and the week has gone! A belated congratulations on reaching 100 days I did send an early congrats on day 99 but still feel bad I didn't post on the day itself! Came on this morning and see you have now made a dent Into that second one hundred that's just brilliant to see!

Wish you a very pleasant weekend try not to fret too much about these calls I dealt with a fair few myself prior to my payment plan being fully setup! Once it's in then the finances will settle and providing you continue to press forward like you are now things will really be fine!

Oh just finally i don't often like to offer opinions as such on here because everyone has their own way in recovery but I do often wish people would stick to what's working so it was very refreshing for me to read you would continue to post daily! Why tamper with something that is working so well!

Flagg x

Hi Irene

Getting back to your phone calls and a possible debt plan. Who are you with? I am with C.C.C.S or Step change as they are now. They are a charity and do not take any of your money - it all goes to the people you owe money to. I think they are the best. I was with another company before this, but fund out that this company was a charitable organisation and a very reputable one at that! Maybe you could give them a ring also. I have the number if you need it.

Back to the recipies - I have a few very good BBC Good Food pocket books. They only cost £4.99 each and I have one on "Cheap Eats" and "Eating on a Budget". They have some lovely cheap and very easy recipies in them.

Catch up soon. Maybe on chat again!!

Take care.

Day 103

Phew- I felt so ashamed of that call. I'm kinda glad I'm not alone in being "hounded" by my debtors. Sorry guys- I didn't mean that I wished debt on anyone else.............thanks for sharing your experiences.

Anyhow, got my Citizen's advice guy on the phone today- seeing him Wednesday. He has such a calm manner- so reassuring.

Got a lovely letter from another company reminding me that I hadn't paid full minimum payment to another card- to be dealt with wed also 🙂

I have every intention of paying every single penny I owe to these companies- but I cannot afford to make myself ill by worrying.

I have never been particularly good at managing money, however I have always taken extra work to cope with lean times. This is increasingly difficult as I become older, yet I find myself wondering if I could squeeze in a 3rd job to pay my debts quicker.

I have taken steps to reduce outgoings and they should reduce further when my son leaves home. Stopping smoking has saved me loads 🙂

I'll have a look for those books Feb!

Work today was good- my usual Friday activity and a wee half hour walk/jog with Paddy after. Looking forward to my "mini facial" tomorrow- a cheaper version of the full bhoona 🙂
