A lot of people say they only gamble when pi - shed. Obviously alcohol is a massive dis-inhibitor. Seldom is abstention from booze considered.

Can be tough as drinking is so embedded in UK culture. Pretty heavy drinking is socially acceptable - as long as you don't cross that line into alcohol addiction.

I gambled sober and maybe just the amounts increased a bit when drunk. What are people's views? Do you only bet when drinking?

I betted from the moment I woke up as I had an online account with a particular bookie but I think a) I became more disinhibited when I went out for a pint (or more) next to a pub and b) I got into zombie/slightly drunk mode. Didn't help that there was a pub/bookies/cash machine in a row. Best wishes, Phil.

For me i would say that the majority of my gambling was when i was sober. Gambling was/ is always the primary in my battle with addictions. Gambled to avoid and then would drink to numb the loss's or the new shame i would feel in letting my self down yet again after a gambling splurge.

Possibly, despite being a drinker and sure some could class me as a problem drinker, but possibly had more respect with what physical damage drink could do and took me a long time to realise that in the terms of addiction, there isnt any difference.

The majority of my drinking was/ is social and used to show a more extrovert side to my self and a way to be the person i aspire to be, gambling was more introverted as i always did by myself. So, i guess in a nutshell that possibly drinking and gambling are entwined in my different personalities... An introvert/ extrovert

Gambling and drinking in many cases are closely linked. I've always thought it was as a result of the escapism aspect. Not wanting to, or being able to face reality. It can seem boring especially after the highs, and all too familiar lows, of heavy gambling. Also as mentioned above its often used to drown your sorrows. But to celebrate too, and sometimes in many cases, to celebrate clawing your losses back from a particular session. So in other words, whatever the outcome of the gambling, alcohol seems like a good option when it's probably just going to make things worse.
