I know this might be ridiculous, but I’ve lost 1.3k in a couple of hours this afternoon. I feel very numb, and I can’t believe I let this happen. It was all on horse racing, and I started with a £5 bet, then £10 to win that back, ending with £200 bets on horses.

it was ridiculous and stupid, and I can’t find the words to tell my girlfriend what’s happened. We are saving for a holiday, and I am currently unemployed so this was most of my money I have (it was all the money in my bank account and savings, the rest is in cash).

will I ever get over such a massive loss and massive error in judgement? I feel like a complete failure and I’m very ashamed.

As a gambling addict, 4 days into my second attempt at recovery, I’m probably not in the best position to give advice. I have been there though. If I could change things, I’d be completely open and honest with absolutely everything as soon as possible and begin addressing addiction. I was open and honest to a point but should have given complete transparency. I offered that at the time but my girlfriend then refused it and said she’d trust me to get well. I wish now I’d have pushed more for that as we are currently not together following my latest relapse

Hi

I'm not judging at all but I guess the fact that you have realised you had no control in this instance you probably realise you can't gamble responsibly gamble. You can't give up obviously until you want to but you have come on here for a reason. It sounds like you haven't gambled for too long so maybe it's time to change your life before it gets worse ? I gambled for 44 years and lost a huge amount of money. You can't win long term but I personally am an addict and can't gamble responsibly so I finally gave up
