Hello Gary,
Without knowing the exact of what happened and when its very hard to say if you have a case to get anything back or not. You have nothing to lose and if you think you have real grounds for it i would say go for it.
Whatever the outcome of that you need to get some help for your gambling. Give gamcare a call they will be able to advise you on the situation gambling has placed you in.
You need to get solid blocks in place to protect any potential further financial damage you could do. Self excluding is a good place to start but you can also get blocking software for all your devices (K9 and gamblock for eg). Order new bank cards and hand them over to someone else to take your access to money away to stop you. I've heard people ordering cash only cards that stop online "purchases" so this is another option. Speak to people about it. Ideally you need to tell someone close to you that you trust that can help support you look after finances and mentally deal with your gambling.
I know you said you was doing quite well before this but this is a massive blow out and the fact that you have the ability and means to do that is worrying as a compulsive gambler.
See what they say but absolutely get the help you need to deal with this problem to make sure this doesn't get any worse.
All the best.
thanks very much for reply i had never been in a bookys until a so called friend persueded me i would be ok around 18 months ago ,i have now lost 75 k ish i take anti depressants ,the worste was onlinw which i thought i had got rid of ,feelso sorry for my wife ,such a shame i dont think of that when im depositing 1000s,im an idiot ,was in a geeat position at my time of life and now ruined it .
paddy P have been very cagey aboutthis since i first contacted them, firstly lying saying i had never self excluded, then next day admitting i had ,also i asked for both copies of online chat to be emailed to me,the 1st was but after the guy admitting to me in 2nd chat he did say a copy would be sent ,it was not ,luckily my son had already copied it,i suppose i am clutching straws but hey nothing to lose, thanks for your time guys.
Echo the advice above...Regardless of where your complaint ends up, you must get help. If nothing else, turn your finances over to someone because I don’t imagine for one second the emails are going to stop 🙁 I have never played online & other than a cash purchase of the odd lottery ticket/scratch card, haven’t gambled for over 3 years & yet suddenly in the last few months, I have started receiving emails offering me all sorts of ways to lose my: money, time, self worth, life, albeit they aren’t written with those words.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, addiction will chew you up & spit you out & yes, financially that is a huge hit but there is hope! You can get help from counselling (GamCare offer this free of charge) & there are groups all over including GA for you & GamAnon for your loved ones to help you all figure out how to move past this & get this side of you under control which may even help with your peace of mind - ODAAT
