I have 2 little daughters and older one is 5.5yrs. Today was the second time i didnt know what to tell her. First time she saw her dad throwing up in the middle of the day, he got drunk, this was in december last year. Yesterday he left the house while i was at school to pick her up. He still hasnt come yet. I called him after i came back yesterday from picking up the young one, and he Said that he was in a hotel and kids heard that. I whispred if he was at casino and he Said yes. I was pregnant twice and i knew he was gambling here and there, but he just left yesterday in the middle od the day. I know we will be separate one day but meantime i don’t know how to approach kids. My older one was waiting from him all night because he Said he was coming home. And this morning asked me if he slept at a hotel. I don’t how to lie and i don’t know what should i be telling to little kids who are becoming aware of themselves and everything around them. I don’t want them be messed up when they grow up. Please I take every advice.

I am so so sorry to hear this. I'm not the right person to reply to you and I am sure others will do on here with their experiences. I am a compulsive gambler in recovery. I don't think any of us can blame everything on the addiction but it does take over our brains and cause chaos. We lose all sense of being present in the moment and do things without conscience which are far beyond our true selves. I hope he can see sense as it sounds like he has a major problem to be escaping as he is and not facing life on life's terms.Â
My heart goes out to you and your two little ones. I have a 17 year old non verbal autistic son who is amazing and a 19 year old daughter who is one of the kindest girls on the planet and is studying mental health. My relationship with them since finding recovery is utterly amazing. Just being present, listening and wanting to listen is the true me
