Early on in my relationship, my partner had been doing this (messaging escort girls) and said it was when he was in a bad place with the gambling and had a lot of shame, self-worth issues and generally felt worthless.
I let this all go and continue to support him, but the feeling of sadness in me just crop up every now and then and I do worry it may happen again, if (when) he is in a bad place again with the gambling.
