Last night my boyfriend of one year admitted to me that he has a gambling addiction. He has ran up a large amount of debt, but I am unsure of how I can help him. I understand that he first has to want to help himself. I believe he does, yesterday he told me that gambling makes him feel dirty and disgusted with himself. He also gets suicidal, he tried to take his own life about 8 weeks ago, he blamed stress at work but I think the gambling and debts are to blame. I am encouraging him to call the gamcare helpline with the hope that he will attend there face to face counselling sessions. He has agreed to go to the doctors with me on Friday, we are unable to go sooner as he is working away. I am unsure what they will be able to do to help but have decided its got to be worth a shot and if I can get him to speak to someone about it with me by his side I see that as a milestone. I am going to suggest that he downloads K9 onto his ipad and iphone has anyone had any experience with this? does it work? As we dont live together it can be difficult for me to keep an eye on his finances. I would like to sit him down go through what he owes, come up with a plan to pay it back and limit the access he has to his funds. Has anyone else done this? Is this the right thing to? I have issued him with an ultimatum which I will carry out he also knows I am deadly serious. Its me or the gambling.

Any advise anyone can offer would be gratefully appreciated.
