New to forum

Hi Geray - I found out this November that my son had started with the odd bet 3 years ago then escalated over time. Got himself into a circle of gambling, pay day loans, borrowing from us, missing car payments, round and round and round. He works hard and is a good lad but became addicted and couldn't stop the cycle. We thought he was mismanaging his money! We eventually found out as we got a loan to pay things off for him on the understanding we had access to his bank account. When I found out I just went in to mum mode wanted to talk talk talk fix fix fix. He wasn't ready to talk at first, denied having a problem. It's was upsetting to read the bank statements, See him getting paid and the balance young down, I just couldn't understand why he couldn't see what he was doing to himself. Anyways the update is that after just a few weeks my son is doing so much better, we have his bank card, we transfer his wages to our account leaving enough in his bank for direct debits. We then transfer money on to a prepaid card for his spends. At first he didn't like it, threatened to take us off his bank account. He is a much calmer person now, we talk about how much money to transfer every week without cross words. I think he is relieved it is out in the open now and knows he needs our support to get him through this. My son has gambled £30 in the last 3 weeks, this is so much better than £900 in 3 weeks! This forum has been so helpful to me, some advice I didn't like but always took on board. You know your son best, listen to the advice and take from it which parts work for you, everyone's recovery is different as everyone's addiction is different. I do hope your son works with you, it takes alot of hard work and control from the cg but can be done! Good luck to you all x wcid
