No problem. Each to their own. In truth I struggle with others who don't go to GA as for me it's really the only thing where lived experience is the key part of helping with recovery. As good as the gamcare advisers are unless they've been through what you've been through it is hard to really empathise and not be judgemental. I know that's a sweeping statement but I'm sure there are individuals within other organisations who have that experience.

One of the key words used in GA is how. How do I stop. We break that into H for Honesty, O for open mind and W for willing. I have to remember that I too need to remain open minded to others methods.

Good luck with your journey. Should you gave any questions that I can help with in a non GA way I will do my best to help you.

Chris.

I'm so glad you've written this Dan, this is exactly where I am.  I too have gone onto a demo account several times, and the same feelings come flooding back, fear and a form of helplessness.  How can something that is so basic be so hard to achieve consistent success in.  I know its me, I'm the bad factor, unable to close out losing positions.  Lack discipline, but its been over 20 years.  And if i'm totally honest with myself, I have never been net positive for more than a short amount of time.  I'm drinking too much and netflix is something that also allows temporary escape.    There is nothing else where you can achieve the sort of financial success like potentially you could do in trading.  And the remorse that I've allowed it to take over my life is high.  All the time, effort, learning, studying has all been for absolutely nothing.    I keep thinking of that youtube with Matthew McConaughey, - 5 minutes for the next 50 years of your life where he says 5.14 mins ish in "we're going to make mistakes - you've got to own them, then you got to make amends, and then you've got to move on."

Thanks again Chris.

Hi Emma.Tbe simple thing to remember is only about 15-20% of people trade with any kind of regular success. It's no shame to be part of that losing group. To even do it and lose a small and controlled amount and call it a leisure pastime is fine. That is where we massively overstep and chase, and its so important to recognise this and stop entirely. There is no wiggle room. No matter how much time you've dedicated to it, how many courses you've been on, no matter what degree of success you've had for any kind of time, the here and now is the only thing that matters. Right here and right now we have lost. Heavily. You have and me too have to stop.

I did the gamcare therapy and that was great. I'm actually going to do 1 on 1 therapy going forward to cover everything. Not just gambling. My wife and a few friends swear by it. Trial and error at this point but anything that keeps me away from the market can only be a good thing.

Good luck.
