Today I am 30 days gamble free. An achievement I am extremely proud after over 10 years of out of control gambling. However I have been here many times before so I must make this happen this time.

What I am finding difficult is that I was always used to borrowing money to fund my addiction. I would lose a few grand and then borrow again to almost make things right again in my head and the cycle would continue. Every time I would log into my bank account I would have a few K sitting there as reassurance and now I have reached rock bottom with my finances and exhausted every avenue of borrowing I don’t have that anymore and it is tough.

Being a gambling addict is scary, because I could lose 5k, borrow 5k on a credit card the next day and then it makes everything fine again. I have 5 credit cards and 3 loans with debt of 49k collectively and paying £1200 a month. It is just outrageous to think I have got in such a mess when I used to be so good with money.

I must continue to make this work before I lose everything, any more gambling and I will be homeless.

Hi King,

Well done on 30 days GF. Every GF day is a positive step towards happiness.

I’m 340 days now but still have a significant amount of debt which is depressing. However nearly one year down and 4 to go. It’s a long journey but one you can beat.

We all know gambling isn’t the answer and it’s a mugs game. It’s all about retraining the brain to understand this. 30 days is probably one of the first milestones you need to hit before things start to turn. Keep going and with every day it will get better.

The devil is always waiting so make sure the blocks are there 100% or you will be destined to fail.

Good luck and I wish you well.

G
