Good Afternoon.

I have recently read Allen Carr"not the comedian" book quitting gambling. That was on Sunday. I used to bet every day, however for the first time in 8 years have not done so.

Good luck to all of you wanting to stop. I feel great and you can to!! 🙂

Interesting...

Thoughts on this;

How long will it take for them to work out what you're doing and for them to put a stop to the 'free' money.

Also if you were a smoker and a shop offered a free cig every day how long would it take to say - one cig just isnt enough to kerb by addiction and for you to do as you always have done - spend xxx amount of your own money.

Not sure I could do this.

For me it was to stay out of the bookies and this way seems a reason to go into the bookies!!!

You did say yourself "one bet away from temptation).

Don't think having the best of both worlds is a good idea but everyone's recovery is personal to them.

Wishing you lots of luck.

thanks to you both for your thoughts,

sonic, they have sent a text for over a year, last year i did the above to save for holidays and got £200. to be honest it varies from £2 to £10 and also some time you get £10 for a day only, however have had £10 for the last 8 days. they text me at 3pm. i am extremely confident i can go in and do it and i have good banter with the lads behind the counter which i would have whether i would bet or not... the point i have realised its the banter i enjoy NOT the gambling, id have the same fun betting or not however its costing me nothing! will keep updating. 🙂 cheers good luck 🙂

pooboy, I'm 15 days free thanks to that book, feels so good to be free, personally I'd count a free bet no matter how secure it is as gambling - your in their shop so your that fly inside the plant in their trap potentially to get caught up again, ignore the texts and stay clear ! good luck !

Hi Pooboy

Just to say we had to edit this thread a little as we felt it described a betting system that could be really unhelpful for people trying to stay away from betting shops. We don't allow betting systems to be discussed on this forum as it is about recovery. We can understand that you are feeling good about it, but please try to consider others who may be fighting urges.

Best wishes

No worries forum, cheers Gerry you are correct.... I get the fly in the plant analogy, however can honestly say the book and its resolve is kicking the plants bottom! The book is great! Cynical wife, im appreciate your comments but you are wrong! I went in there yesterday, took my free £9.50 out of the FOBT, smiled, went the counter and had a great bit of a banter with the manager for 20 mins, looked around the place, saw no one happy, all addicts, felt AMAZING and walked out .... Took the cash home and put it in my holiday tin,( i did it last year and saved over £200) ... nipped i thought that however i did it every day for 3 weeks last year....good luck all....remember if you feel the same if you win or lose....you are an addict..... good luck gerry 🙂

Most/all of us on here are trying to conquer our addiction in whatever way we think best.

If it works for you then good and I hope you enjoy your holiday!!!

However us gamblers dont need any help or thoughts planted to get us back to where we were.

One step away!!!!

My thoughts are you think you might be the 1 in a million that can control gambling. If you are i really wish you the best and enjoy your winnings.

Seems like you've made up your mind what you want to do but please now respect that others are struggling. The gambling industry spends millions attracting and keeping problem gamblers and addicts coughing up.

Your doing a great job being their mouth piece

Its truely amazing the justifications the addicted mind will come up with to continue to have a punt. Posts of betting stratagies really dont have a place on this forum. As Tri said you are being a wonderful mouthpiece for the industry. I can just imagine a few poor souls who read your initial post seizing upon that as an excuse to get back to the bookies for some free cash. Likelyhood is there still in there feeding their childrens dinner money into the machines. Way to go fella

i can understand the comments on here as there's been a lot of heart ache due to the addiction of gambling. Believe me the bookies are leeches and i now despise them immensely. If people can cannot go into a bookmakers and resist, dont go in....If someone gives you a free tenner a day, would you take it ?? of course you would. Im not daft( I used to be....and gamble it away....and much more besides) Its the fly and the plant issue.... or when someone does drugs the 1st fix is free...like a free bet......however read allen carrs book if you want to escape...im a mouthpiece for that book only and being a non-gambler.bookies are evil, we all know that...ive done loads of research into FOBT, profits, addictions, brainwashing etc, yet this book made me see the light...... I would love someone to come on this post after a few days and see the light regarding allen carrs book......the original post has been edited. if you read it before, you would see i am not gambling. apologies for any offence caused to anyone.... and i wish you all continue in your fight, but read the book, it will be the best £4 you have ever spent.

Finally day@atime, as my original post says, i get a text, because i was an addict and the bookmaker knew id follow up with more money....which since reading the book i dont...your general man as you say will seize it as an excuse wont as he doesnt get the text and i hope he never does.

Firstly, there's no such thing as a free lunch; your tenners are the direct result of yours and others' compulsion to gamble. Nothing to boast about.

Worse, you know that you're not being helpful to the others in recovery. You know this because it has already been pointed out to you. It's not big and it's not clever.
