Hi, as the title says, just cant get away from them.

Obviously its hard too considering everytime you walk into a shop they're in you face. This has been going on for years now and just got progressively worse. First it would be one or two a day, now its £10-£20 worth every single time i walk into a shop and most of the time i go to the shop just for scratchcards. I would say ive always had a gambling problem, even from an early age in the arcades on fruit machines and then as i got older in the pubs on fruit machines. As i dont drink anymore i dont often find myself in pubs so the fruit machine gambling seemed to move over to scratchcards. Ive tried many times to stop, putting the money i would spend on them in a pot and its surprising how quickly that pot starts filling up, get to a couple of hundrad quid, open said pot and s***k it mostly on scratchcards. The amount of times ive said, just a couple more then thats it, buy some, win nothing and just so i dont look like a t**t going back into the shop buying more to try and win my winnings back, i drive to another shop only to lose again and feel like s**t because of it. The money could be so much better spent, everything there says that 100% i have a problem with it, denying it, hiding it from the misses who says i have a problem with it but i just laugh it off.

So today is the day that i want to do something about it, hence why i am here. It will be hard, i dont know if i can do it alone as its a tough one, i gave up smoking on willpower alone just by just saying to myself, thats it, no more, stubbed out my last ciggy out and never looked back, that was 4 years ago. I need the same sort of mentality as that for this.

Wish it was that simple, the only other person would be to hand them over to the misses and she is worse with money than what i am. 😀

First trip to the shop, zero scratchcards purchursed, had to go back as i forgot something and resisted the temptation. Early days i know, but its a start.

Hi puggy

I’m on the early days at the moment, I’ve spent a small fortune with Camelot over the years mate, my vice turned to the slots and now and again I’d go on a scratchcard binge, when those £10 ones came in I’d buy them 10 at a time, most I’d ever won was £500, I got the point where I knew I was never going to get anywhere with them, yes somebody will always be the one that wins it big but I came to accept it will never be me, I do still have the odd scrathcard but I’ve probably only spent about £30 in the last 6 months and in the 26 days I’ve been GF I’ve bought one £3 one, each of us has our own goals, mine was to give up all the online betting, which I’ve kinda managed to do easily(gamstop has made it even better). Point I’m trying to make is don’t replace one form with another, you said you’d used to play a lot in the pub so now scratch cards are your new vice. I’d highly recommend registering with gamstop even if you never bet online, at least that’s one avenue shut! Massive congrats on the smoking, I’m 11 months now and life’s better on that front.

Stick with it!!!!

Daniel

Most i ever won was £1000 about 6 years ago on a £2 one and that sort off made me buy even more, went from like two £2 ones a day to like i said, £10-£20 per shop visit and sometimes id go out to the shop just for scratchcards also. Must of spent about £60 yesterday and won SFA, ziltch and made me feel sick as a pig, hence why i am here as i dont want to carry on anymore with it. Ive read some posts on here of people blowing grands in a session which is crazy and with my little habit it seems petty, but it all adds up. Its not like the cupboards are bare or my kids every go without, just the money could be better spent.

I do have a skybet account which i do the odd acca on the footy some weekends of £5-£10 but ive never seen that as a problem, ive just took a timeout for a month on there just to put a stop to that for now, i did try registering with gamstop but it wouldnt let me, will try again with different address later. And any other online stuff ive tended to stay clear of, bingo, slots, casino stuff i just dont want to get involved with that, a big no no. 😀
