Hi Tenner and Welcome,

Well done for deciding to quit.

Very much one day at a time.

Consider online block K9 and self exclusion.

Maybe put your money in the hands of a trusted relative for a while.

Best Wishes with the counselling aspect.

Keep coming to the forum. Interesting stuff on here.

Cheers now.

Thanks sazzy63 can only dream of reaching that one year goal right now. On day 2 of no gambling and trying to kick my usual habit of popping in after work was very hard walking past numerous bookies but so happy to say I did it and feel great however can't shake the feeling of needing to go in I would like to think over time this feeling will go away as it's driving me insane

Habit being the key word.

It becomes standard even essential that you do the usual routine of gambling.

It's that, that needs breaking and you do that by doing anything else but gamble.

It like everyday I get the London Tube, but today I need a different tube, what do I do without thinking end up waiting for my usual tube.

Gambling wise, I stopped being a compulsive gambler, 5 years plus ago, but am still a gambler.

I generally limit myself each Thursday to gamble £50 online.

For most months this year, come Thurs mornings, I go to the same website and deposit £50,without even thinking about it.

Come July as I was about to do the same, I actually thought hold on, lets not do the ВЈ50 and ultimately start the more often than not £200 a month loss cycle again, let's see if I can not do it this week. Well I went into the responsible gambling options and self excluded myself for a month.

I thought I'd miss it, because I do enjoy a gamble still, but after the second week, I hadn't noticed it was actually Thurs and my usual day for gamble.

This month I've just put another months exclusion in place, I believe that is because I have told my mind Thurs is just an ordinary day and not a gambling one.

On day 4 and the urges to gamble are getting worse trying to keep busy and keep my mind off it but it's driving me crazy . Wondering what everybody is doing to keep occupied and fill the hole where you would usually gamble any advice appreciated 🙂

It's very difficult at first because you need to gradually wean your brain away from gambling.

Keeping busy is important even if it means doing boring stuff like washing, ironing etc...

I do the gym sometimes when bored or do something I keep putting off like tidying up.

Watch TV, a dvd, youtube, browse Wikipedia for a person or show.

Or if you have a bit of money why not trawl Ebay etc, for some new clothing or a small electronic treat.
