Hey,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I watched Britain at the Bookies and saw a lot of myself in the numpties. But I'm not sure if I'm ready to accept I have a gambling problem yet so I'm hoping you good people can tell me.

It seems to me that the only reason people are now getting out their prams about gambling is because of Roulette FOBTs? "Poor working class vulnerable people" who are too thick to realise what they are doing and must be protected from themselves?

I gamble too much but I am probably upper class and quite rich (I've got my own flat I rent out and another property I live in). But I still gamble too much because I always seem to lose. When I win I'm very happy and treat all my friends and feel powerfully great. But I don't like losing, so I whine like a little b***h and come on here to get some sympathy.

Do I need protecting from myself?

Do I have a gambling problem? Or do I just not like losing and chase everytime I do?

Any insight appreciated. Thanks.

No, all I'm saying is this is a moaner's forum. I bet you everyone only posts here when they lose.

When they win they feel like king of the world.

Lose... Hello! I suddenly need some sympathy...

Yawn!

Dandare

Gamblings not about "poor working class numpties" as you so eloquently called them...Omar Sharif lost a 5 million euro villa playing bridge...me thinks he not working class...just my insight...enjoy your Dom Perignon shampoo WHILE IT LASTS,

Regards..."working class Ginger"

No I post all the time Dan

Gambling isn't a bit of fun or something I can easily stop

You certainly have a low opinion of gamblers who suffer.

Arrogance is a hallmark of an addict...You think you are better than addiction & don't have a problem! Accept it or don't, you have one! You wouldn't have even found this site if you didn't!

Long time lurker suggest you've read bits so why ask if people only post here when they lose...Losing may have caused people to come here looking for help but you know full well that this is far from a forum for moaners!

Yawn it up dandare, if you don't quit now while you have the money to pay for a trip to the Priory you may well be back here with your tail between your legs!

You seen a 'lot of yourself in those numpties', I never saw the programme you refer to, were these 'numpties' compulsive gamblers ?

It's been said, you've found this site because deep down you know you have a problem, you have money to gamble so you don't see it as a big problem, but it is still a problem nonetheless.

I sincerely hope you don't realise the problem when you have no money left or worst, are in debt because of it.

Yes I agree, I think most find this site after losing, and when compulsive gamblers are winning the last thing they want to do is to stop gambling.

Di yourself a favour, Google '20 questions compulsive gambler' and see how many yes answers you give, only then can you begin to accept the problem, if indeed you have one.

I wish you well.

I would suggest being an addict is the least of your problems. Ignorance & stupidity & your moral superiority over thick working class people would be my biggest concern if i were you.

We are all human beings Dan..... People on here geniuinly come on here for help, some people on here haven't gambled for years but know that the illness still lurks. We support each other.

I suggest that maybe you go forth and multiply or failing that do some research..... How many people commit suicide everyday due to gambling addiction the stats are shocking.

I truly hope that you don't lose everything but believe otherwise with the attitude you present.

Good luck

I am a partner of a recovering CG. Personally i have a lot of admiration for those who use this forum, regardless of if they are a CG or someone who has been affected by gambling. It takes a lot of courage for some to even come here and admit they have a problem, share their thoughts and then some be brave enough to admit when slip ups occur. Success stories, recovering diaries and posts i find inspirational and have most definitely given me hope and have postively impacted upon my family so far. I will always be grateful to the individuals on here strong enough to post and compassionate to offer advice.

Sadly in your case you most definitely do have problems, and not just the signs of having a gambling problem. Everyone has flaws, most here is their addiction to gambling, wealth/ social class can come and go and does not measure the postive personal qualities a person possesses. Strip away your current investments and you appear to be left with less than most here of what really counts.

Good luck on your journey wherever it may take you and i hope you recieve more compassion and support than which you appear to show others.

Dan,

Gambling, like any other addiction, affects across the board. Wealthy or poor, deprived or privileged, professional or unskilled. Same lies and dishonesty, same preoccupation, same selfishness, same losses, these are the features of any active gambler whether it's spread betting or FOBT.

My husband has a university education and worked in the city. It didn't stop him gambling, if anything, he convinced himself that traders and fund managers bet for a living and he was just doing tha same thing. His gambling issue the same as everyone else's at his GA meeting: he can't win because he can't stop.

Neither can you.

The fact you put yourself on a higher pedestal than everyone else straight away suggests to me that you have a problem.

You could have £1,000,000 in the bank, or half that, or quarter that, or even none of that and still be exactly the same as them you found this site because you feel your gambling is out of control be mindful of the things you're saying to people who are willing to help you Dan.

Hope you get some help with your gambling habit Dan, any class of person can succumb to addiction, don't think you're too superior to have a problem. If I'm wrong and you're enjoying losing money with so-called numpties then carry on, at the end of the day there will be one winner and probability suggests it won't be you
