Take a deep breath and remind yourself of why you did it. As you want to stop gambling and give yourself a better life as a result.

feelings are bound to be raw but it will get easier. It’s cold turkeying.

Hi redcan, as sanpablo correctly said it will get better, roll with it and then find a distraction. Once I had got over the initial shock as you're describing I felt low and this is going to sound stupid but I regretted not gambling more on my last gambling day !! How sad is that !! Now the best words I can use is I feel "protected" and "safe" through using gamstop because I know it stops me from committing any more carnage and that my mental health is recovering, and recovering in way that I can truly say that I'm happy that 4/6/2020 was my last gambling day. He kind to yourself and I hope the feeling pass soon for you

Good morning Redcan,

Firstly congratulations on taking that step and putting Gamstop in place, as many of our Forum users will testify, it's not unusual to feel that way initially. But throughout the Forum you will also read what an important step you have now taken in your recovery.

However, it's healthy to acknowledge and look deeper at how you are feeling now, so thank you for sharing your thoughts, I want you to know that you can pick up the phone and call an Adviser on 0808 8020 133 or speak to us via our NetLine  It can be really helpful to just talk through your thoughts and feelings and explore any added support that you may find beneficial at this time.

Kind regards

Hi Redcan, fair play to you. Never easy for an addict to close the door on our drug of choice.

I found making a budget useful as it helped me get organised and gave me some goals to reach. Once I reached them I would treat myself to something as a reward.

One day at a time my friend, you can do this

Thanks Joe-90 appreciate your message . It's been a hard day today that's for sure .  On a positive I had my gamcare referral call today and she was great . So I have a zoom call next week and my journey has started for sure.  Although I feel like something has been ripped away from me it's nice to know that when I get paid next week I should have some spare money to do as you Are and treat myself. Thanks mate , I will check out your journey too .

Thanks Charlieboy.

The word carnage is a great word to describe what we do. Along with anguish and suffering for all around us. I know it's a great step forward and so glad it's worked for you . I will get my life back once free from this . Take care

All the best mate.

I too felt horrific to start with. In fact it lasted quite a long time. I guess it shows just how deep in we are? How twisted our brains have become? Just make sure this is the turning point for you mate and you will be able to look back on this with pride.

It’s been just over a year from me now. I still have to keep on my guard but I can go full days without even thinking about gambling. Life is so much better free of this madness. Hope it all goes well mate, don’t let your guard down.

Hi Redcan, good look and stay positive. I too have done Gamstop for the first time. Know exactly what you mean about wishing we had enjoyed our last gamble.
I actually feel sick at my actions the 3-4 before binge gambling and losing my families money.
Time for change

Hi Redcan,

Just noticed this short thread and was instantly reminded of myself.

As of earlier this year, I signed up for GAMSTOP to ban all online gambling. In the short term, I felt great, thinking on how much money I will have saved by doing so. Then the emptiness kicked it. Almost feels like the only thing you began to enjoy out of life was gambling, and now that is gone it feels empty.

This was 4 or 5 months ago now, and I can say it gets better. I’ve gone through my own journey and am still recovering, I’m not perfect and have made mistakes along the way, but it’s about inprovements.
You will look back and wonder what you were worried about. You begin to feel the release of gambling and the new found freedom of life, and you can do great things with it!

Good job on taking the right steps, and just remember, it’s not a race, it’s a journey.

All the best.
