Hello, scary to think that I’ve been on gamcare for 11 years, I’ve tried half-heartedly to give up a few times but never really made much progress. I’ve had a rollercoaster ride, though mostly downs. I’ve come across good amounts of money 4 or 5 times and always lost it, and more. I bet on pretty much anything - though financial bets and slots are the worst - sports betting is usually for small amounts. Â
Â
I also have a problem with drinking too much, and alcohol and gambling don’t mix well! So this week, I’ve decided to give up both drinking and gambling as I realise I need to give up both at the same time. I gave up drinking before for 2 years, but I was still gambling and I realise now that I wasn’t really sober - I was just chasing the high I used to get from drinking with gambling more.
Â
I’m on day 3 of not drinking, and my gambling has drastically reduced these last few days but I am aiming to quit gambling completely too. I’ll check in regularly on gamcare and try to make it to the chatrooms and start a recovery diary. And I’ll signup for gamstop which would be a huge step for me. Thanks for your support - take care all.
Hi @andyrrÂ
I can relate, I too have an alcohol issue, especially at weekends and you are correct, both don't mix well, I've tried numerous times to give up alcoholic, but never succeeded, so I cut down, and that seems to eotk a whole lot better for me, when not boozy, I can control myself and not go chasing losses. This is my first weekend since signing up on here, I feel ok at present, but it's not 3pm yet!! I wish you wellÂ
