Hi all. Hope your all well and keeping safe.

unfortunately this isn’t a nice story to tell. Three years ago I joined football index as the way they  promote the website was that we are not like traditional book makers and your bet is never over. Long story short I’ve ended up putting in over 60k in 3 years and only until last year the company started asking if my gambling is in control and asking where my income was coming from.

I’ve now ended up losing 15k and it’s eatting me my inside every day. If anyone else was on football index or knows of something please seek help too.

Hey I am so sad to read your story. Football isn’t one I ever got involved with.

I sort of think the same sometimes, that there was me losing thousands a month, then I would try to quit but I would get a ‘we haven’t seen you in a while, here is a £50 bonus’ and thar would be me back. Likewise, where I work now, in a bank, if someone is gambling they won’t get a loan...yet I was able to get a loan with my bank (not the one I work for) I’ve had since childhood...which was then gambled.

Did the company provide any support when they asked if the gambling was under control?

Hi SM8, welcome to the forum.

It is really sad what happened with Football Index.

For those unfamiliar with its structure - as SM8 said, it varies from traditional bookmakers in that you 'buy' a footballer and are rewarded through dividends when they play well or appear in the media often. The player's value can rise or fall and it's up to the customer to ''sell' whenever they like.

What happened was that, recently, the owners decided to drastically reduce the dividend payments. This caused the value of every player to crash, so practically every customer lost money and many withdrew what money they had left, leading to Football Index's parent company to go into administration. Customers can no longer use the platform.

The last thing I want to do is seem like I'm trivialising or downplaying this issue or SM8's reason for posting - not in the slightest.

What I'm interested to know is, SM8 - do you consider that the investment you made to be a sign of compulsive gambling/addiction? For example, were you putting more in Football Index than you could afford?

This is important because it will give an indication of what kind of support you need.

I really am sorry for the experience you've had. Gamcare has lots of information about debt support and, if you feel you need it, on limiting access to bookmakers.

Please use what you feel you need to and keep posting here.
