Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and have been advised to use it by a GamCare telephone advisor.

A bit about me: I've been struggling with gambling issues on and off for about the last 8 years. I've had a couple of blocks of counselling but never seem to figure out why I do it, or what makes the gambler in me tick. I quit "for good" back in January but fell off the waggon a few weeks ago.

I'm determined to find my way to a gambling free existence, and hopefully, I can help some other members along the way also 🙂

Oh, if you're still awake and reading this, get some sleep - I should be :P

xx

Hey, Yep I should get some sleep but I took a big loss today and trying to fathom why I'm still making the same old mistakes. I believe anyone can stop gambling and you've taken the first step to conquering your problem!

I have problem with online bookmakers, how about you?

Hi Aaron. Thank you for replying 🙂 My main issue is with online slots and bingo, but also national lottery scratchcards and tickets, from a shop, to a point. I've decided I need goals, and to feel I have a purpose, as I am disabled and can't work. So i think I will be planning those if I can't sleep shortly 🙂

Hi HV, welcome to the forum 🙂

Interesting that you say you have had some bouts of counselling & haven't figured it out because day@atime bought up the lack of longievity in counselling a while back. He won't mind me saying, he is 10 years clean so knows a bit about recovery...He is also a staunch GA advocate. The GA literature goes as far as saying that knowing why we gamble is not important as a rule & yet the recovery program is tried & tested so maybe this is something you would consider?

The forum is not only a safe place to come when you are feeling urges but it is a great place to support & be supported, you may even make new friends here.

Giving up gambling is a lifetime commitment so get back on that wagon & I'll do as you said & get some sleep. Hope you are doing the same ahead of the start of your new gamble free life - ODAAT
