Hi I'm new to this but was looking for a little support and advice. I have found out that my husband has been gambling online on slots and has ran up almost £20k in debt. I don't know what to do, he is full of remorse and says he will stop and has excluded himself from all sites, but I'm not sure it's that easy, he is only stopping because I found out not because he wants to. I am just absolutely fuming, I cant believe that he would do this to us and don't know if I can ever trust him again. Does it get any easier?
Hi Loulou,
Welcome to the Forum!
You are right, self-exclusion it’s not enough. Have you asked him to get help? He could get in touch with us and arrange counselling. We can also give him practical advice to help him through this for example, seeking financial advice from Step Change where he can arrange an affordable re-payment plan.
Understandably, you feel angry and your trust in him is shaken. It may take some time before you can regain this trust and in the meantime you are right not to trust him with money. Would it be an option for you to start managing his salary so he doesn’t have access to more money than necessary?
If this is too overwhelming for you, I would suggest you get in touch with GamCare and talk to an advisor. Dealing with problem gambling can be a long term situation and it will be challenging so, you need to get support too and learn how to best manage the situation.
I hope that answers your questions.
Warm wishes,

Hi loulou it could be a struggle if he doesn't want to stop. First thing is to safeguard your money, no joint accounts. As suggested get him to pay salary to you if you can. Credit reports, call gamcare, GA for him gamanon for you. Meetings are good support and you will learn how to manage behaviour. It's all consuming initially and shocking. There are online blocking softwares too to download onto gadgets. Keep posting and others will be along to offer their advice too
