Hey,

I've been gambing now for 6 years, since University

I've never had an interest in gambling, until onewhilst browsing the interneta pop up appeared for a betting site '£10 free no deposit...' this was the beginning of the end...a small win sparked an interest inside of me.

Over the next few days I waited anxiously for my student loan to hit my account as soon as it did I gambled and lost the full amount.

The gambling started off small, but now it's reached new levels. I put £1000 on a time. I've put others in debt just to do this.

In total I've lost around £100,000

I've think its shameful to say this, but I enjoy gambling, a lot. I find it so hard to stop once I start. Only last Tuesday did I bank a big win £10,000 which I'm waiting to hit my account, I know as soon as it does I will gamble it away within minutes.

Hi oxford girl,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your post.

According to your post, it seems like you’re concerned at the progressive rate of your gambling. You did mention that you do enjoy gambling but, you didn’t say what you actually wanted to do about your gambling problem; whether you wanted to minimise it or, to stop completely.

Gambling problem can take over your life before you know it (your story tells me you’re close to it, if not already there), and that’s why it pays to do something about your gambling now, before it gets to that stage. If you’re worried about gambling away your £10,000 winnings, then think about how you can restrict/ limit your withdrawals from your account every week. Maybe a discussion with your bank manager would be an appropriate thing to consider.

Perhaps you’ll like to read about, and install one of the following internet blocking software, which stops you from accessing gambling sites. The software are :- Gamblock, Net Nanny and Betfilter.

Maybe, you’ll also like to contact us via our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Meanwhile, keep posting, and thanks once more.

Best wishes,

Beatrice

Thank you all for your replies. I do want to stop, I did manage to stop for a year, (with only the odd slip) but I'm back to it again.

Online roulette. So many chances to press the withdrawal button but continued to oblivion. What a disaster. Keep your 10k, a holiday?!

I know how you feel down and out. That was me again last friday. I have spent thousands and last friday maxed out on my overdraft so i have only £40 left on other overdraft. I spent £5k on slots how mad is that!!!! This was my wake up call. I cannot play anymore as i defo have no money. What i have done is spoken to my bank to explain situation (a bit embarrassing but it had to be done). I also emailed every gambling company /site i could think of to block me and my cards. I have moved my computer to a more puplic place in the house. You'll have to pick yourself up and start again IF YOU REALLY WANT THIS YOU WILL DO IT. Last night was hard as friday is my gamble day. Kids in bed quite time for me but i resisted. I have tonight to battle with now but i am determined. Good luck

Thanks for the support. Sorry Oxford Girl for hijacking your post. My first post was so rubbish as I was so empty and couldn't string my story together. I can't go on like this. It is comforting to know that although everyone has a different story we all understand how awful it is to be a compulsive. I really have had enough of this way of living.

You can change your life. Believe in yourself and try to 1. Block software 2. Speak to bank 3. Confide in someone who can take your bank cards 4. Phone or email the online sites to block your cards not just close your account. I have closed many account but because i have access to lots of email addresses through BT I have opened new accounts. If they block cards i only have two bank cards so i cannot spend anymore 5. Hide your cards in parents house for a few weeks and just make sure you have enough cards. 6. Close paypal ir other similar sites if you use these to gamble. Sorry for lecture. Something might help. DO ALL YOU CAN.

Hi,

Sound advice Poblwc. If people are serious about giving up this horrible habit the strongest measures have to taken.

Only thing i can add is go to GA meetings if possiblle and or seek counselling via this site.

As you rightly say DO ALL YOU CAN.
