Hi all,

I don't know what to do with myself, I try so much to stay away from the bookies and the casinos but I cant stop myself. I always say never again but again always comes.

Ive been gambling for only a year but my problems are getting worse. Last month I wasted my WHOLE wage in just hours of being paid. I really struggled to motivate myself at work during a really crutial month.

I will be assigned to a submarine soon and Im worried with all that extra money I get being at sea will be too tempting not to gamble when I come back. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do before it really gets out of control?

Hi there,

Its a real addiction, this is why we do things that are not rational such as gamble our wages away in a few hours. The reality is we cannot do this alone. You should look up you neareast GA meeting and go there asap, do this before you head out to sea, and get barriers in place before you return. Most compulsive gamblers have others in charge of their finances for example, as we are addicts we will get urges to gamble and when we have moments of weakness its good to have barriers in place that make it diffficults if not impossible for us to gamble. Come clean about this issue to as manay people as you can as you need as much support as you can.

Get to GA first and foremost as you need to get your head around this addiction first. All the best

Hi Degenerate22,

Thanks for your post, and for sharing your story here in the forum too.

It seems like you’re aware of how money has been slipping through your fingers lately due to your gambling problem, and you’d like to do something about it before it gets out of control. That seems like a step in the right direction.

You particularly are concerned about losing more money that you’re likely to make when you’re assigned to a submarine soon.

I will advise you to get in touch on our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak 1 to 1 to one of our advisers for more help and support in dealing with your situation. Please try and do this immediately so you’ll know what to do when you’re out there at sea, on your own, and get this overwhelming urge to gamble.

I hope that you’ll take note of the helpful response given to you by fellow forum member, Joe-90 too.

Our services are available everyday from 8.00am to midnight, so there’s plenty of time to contact us when you feel ready.

I wish you all the best in your recovery, and please keep posting!

Kind regards,

Beatrice
