Hi guys

I am an addicted gambler who has had enough of this pain. Last night was the final straw when I lost a tennis bet. I dont have the kind of money to lose many on here have thankfully. I have a few payday loans and a credit card but the payments are very little so thats not an issue. I now realise that I am ill. I know I cant win long term! under 1% of gamblers win long term! I cant win! I have tried therapy but it honestly does not seem to work. I am going to call my GP today and ask if I can start taking anti addiction drugs. I have to say that gambling is the hardest addiction to overcome out of all addictions.

I read through these forums and I am heart broken by the misery gambling has caused some of you.

My problem is I bet with bitcoin on sites like nitrogen sports. There is no way to block that! its impossible! even installing a gambling blocker does not work as it can be bypassed very very easily.

will keep you all updated

Thanks for posting. It reminds me of what is out there if I gamble. Good luck with the recovery.

Hello elvispressley and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's good that you are going to see your GP. There are also other options out there. We offer free counselling and Gamblers Anonymous offers local peer support groups. You mentioned that it's impossible to block Nitrogen Sports. I see they have a permanent self exclusion option - would you consider trying that?

Anyway you are very welcome to contact us on 0808 8020 133 if you want to talk over your options.

Best wishes for your recovery

Thanks

You can self exclude but you can keep opening new accounts. A 5 year old could open an account there as ther is no id etc needed. The meetings are a little far from me.

Hi ep.

Welcome to the forum.

I will jump staright in by saying that you seem to have a feeling that self exclusion is pointless almost like you are defeated before you start. That can be the addiction talking and keeping you in its comfort zone of gambling again.

If you take the advice here we recommend that you talk to people close and set up blocks that work for you.

You must stop gambling so please dont talk down the payday loan cycle which is at the highest rate of interest they can possibly charge. Recovery means facing your life head on and searching for a born again moment.

Gambling will take you to new lows you havent considered yet. If you are betting with bitcoins that rings warning bells for me. Secrets and untraceable funds plays right into a gambling addiction.

You really need to focus now thats its not an income scheme in the sense we would like it to be.

Can you speak to anybody close? I used to say the meetings are a bit far and I understand that. However I set up a network of blocks and monitoring that stopped my gambling immediately. You should try and get to a meeting if you are struggling with your thoughts

There is no room for half measures here. You cant just dip your toe in the water. You have to immerse yourself in full recovery and I can assure you that you will start to feel much better again.

If you dont know the password software can be very effective but if you dont really want to stop it will be very difficult.

There is help and there is a better way of life. Being gamble free is wonderful feeling of self respect and dignity.

Please keep using the forum and phone gamcare. Its not just a case of posting a couple of times and you have much to learn

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
