I need to sort myself out

Hi,

40 year old. Always enjoyed cards and an occasional flutter... But this year I really fell into online Blackjack. I enjoy the game, the strategy and the probabilities... However, of course, the house always wins.

The highs are high and the lows are dreadful. I started losing hundreds each week, and now I've obliterated about 30k of my savings. I thought I'd stopped about a month ago... But relapsed two weeks ago. 10k up in a short time, but this week I've lost about 15k... Another 2k just this evening...

It's all my money, and I'm not in debt nor have any dependents... But I'm disgusted with myself. I've let myself and my (self-sufficient) partner down (she knows about the first phase but not the relapse)

I work from home and it's easy to lose concentration. I need to work on identifying my triggers.

I need to try harder.

Hi Diesel,

Well done for creating your first post on the forum and thank you for sharing.

Identifying triggers is a good idea, so you can look at putting steps in place to anticipate and manage these. Have a look at our Empower Me modules to help you through this https://www.gamcare.org.uk/self-help/empowerme/

You may also benefit with using self-exclusion, for example signing up to www.gamstop.co.uk if you live in the UK.

Take care,
Nicole

Hi Diesel

My gambling crux is in store bookies and arcades. I used to gamble online but have self excluded from every place possible online that it became too much effort and hassle for me to gamble online so I stopped gambling online and now after years I don't think about gamling online at all.

That would be my suggestion to you, is contact the various online platforms by email or phone and self exclude. If you can't access the platform, you can't gamble.

Hope you are OK lad, you've done the hardest part, reaching out.

All the best with your recovery.

Danny

Well done on the post.

There is plenty of help on here via chats and forums to help you with beating this. And, as you discovered the other day, the chatroom is a great place to get support.

Hope you can sort your triggers out and stop the gambling.

Stay strong. 💪🏾
