Don't take my word for it but start with your story and take it from there.

Best

I'm not here by choice, I do have a gambling addiction,  have tried various things. Except for GA. I can't go there because of work. Have done various rehab,  no success so far.

What have you tried so far ? Give us some examples and then maybe we can advice further..

You should be here by choice..its a choice to recover. Noone chooses to become addicted but we do choose to work towrds recovery.

Hi Last,

Your post is quite vague. Please tell us a bit more about yourself. How long have you been gambling, do you gamble online etc. Have you self excluded through Gamstop ?. Perhaps the helpline may be able to offer you the advice & support you need.

Best Wishes

Al

Trouble is I enjoy it,  but it's putting my job in jeopardy now. It's spilling over into work when I'm not required. My job is well paid so money is not an issue for now, but if I get sacked it soon will be. My agent has said I have to talk to people with gambling problems so  and has found this site for me so here I am.

You are not here by choice? Your job is in jeopardy. You enjoy gambling.

I think we would all love to help you but you should also want to be helped. I am not saying that I or everyone here can´t relate to those feelings because we absolutely can but wanting help needs to come from you. Needing a change needs to come from you.

It is up to you but you could do with a session on the helpline here and let a counsellor talk to you.

Remember. Being in one state of mind ie not wanting to stop does not make you better or worse than anyone else but as you are here I am assuming that your gambling is not going your way atm. And as you are here you may want to listen and see if you may find an alternative that could help you shift focus because it needs to come from you and not from anyone else.

Any time you want to talk about shifting that current state you are in atm we will all be here to give you the best help we can.

Stay strong.

Best

C

@lasttime by mentioning an agent it sounds like you are trying to say you are a sportsman or in the public eye. If that's the case you couldn't be more wrong about GA. There have been plenty of "famous" people through GA doors, it's a place where you can get better. The second part of the group is anonymous. What is said in the room and who is seen in the room stays in the room.
When someone is sitting across from me, telling their story, I see a compulsive gambler, the same as me, that's all. I would never betray the room or any members in it, like I would expect my own anonymity to be protected outside of the room.
If you're a sportsman then there are clinics like Sporting chance who can help, they are for sportsman needing help with addiction.
There's a company called Epic risk management, run by people from a mainly sports background who also have addiction and they do talks at various clubs.
Give GA a try.

I will caveat my entire post though by saying this. You have to want to give up. If you are still enjoying it or don't want to stop then you aren't ready to stop. You might have to go a long way further down before you start wanting the help you will need. This addiction gets worse, not better, and if it hasn't affected other areas of your life, it will eventually and you'll lose more than just money, even if you can afford to.
Chris.
