I would happily see every bookies on every high street in the land closed and hope this is a step in that direction. Prior to the Bliar government deregulation punters had to actively seek out betting venues rather than having six or seven or ten within a precinct. If they wanted to place high level stakes they went to a licensed casino. The bookies have been rolling in casino level profits generated on the high street for far too long. Not buying the job loss argument either. The rise of the FOBT and the obscene profits associated with it has meant bookies can and have cut staffing levels in their premises to the bone so their fake bleating cuts no ice here.

But don't ever be fooled into thinking that a ВЈ2 stake is better that a ВЈ100, yes it will take u longer to get to to that ВЈ100 stake but u all know as well I do, you can still loose 1000s in a matter of a day, I used to play the ВЈ2 stake anyway and still lost ВЈ1000s just took me a bit longer than the £100 spinners.
At the end of the day it's nice to see some support in place, but it really isn't enough is it.

The thing is I think it’s a start, I’m not into roulette so wouldn’t have a clue on how much you can put on a single spin online, I’ve played £50 spins on slots and there’s a certain provider of games that allow £2000 spins, surely this should come under scrutiny now that they’ve attacked the bookies?

We hope so Daniel. Actually one of the high street bookmakers allow 5k a spin on one of their sites. Id hope they would come under scrutiny but alas I think that they will now try and hook in more punters for online betting now that the high street has been attacked.
there will probably be job losses and shops closed because lets face it the only reason the extra shops were opened was because only 4 machines were allowed per shop.
there were job losses in the tobacco industry , job losses in the nuclear weapons industry. 1.8 billion is lost per year on FOBT's so these companies can afford a more than generous redundancy package to the unfortunate people affected and as it doesnt come in for 2 years they can invest in retraining initiatives , placement schemes to help them find work elsewhere.

I agree to a certain extent but I’m hoping it may prevent people getting as addicted to those mega wins. Maximum prize will be about £70 instead of £500 it’s only a good thing. Shame they aren’t banned all together like in Ireland...
