Here I find myself again asking why me, another gut wrenching feeling of disappointment and dis pair, I stayed clear of gambling for six months and then bang, tonight I spent over 1000 pound, every penny I had saved and more. My girlfriend is now pregnant and due in jan. I can't look her in the face right now. I don't no if I have the strength to pick myself up from this. Just pray I can find it from somewere. Hope everyone had a gamble free day.

Hi Mat,

It's great to hear from you and I can closely relate to a few things you mentioned in your post. You're not alone, you have a great community around you that will do their upmost to relieve you of this monster. You have many positives it seems and desirable qualities, you're expecting a child which is amazing and something to really focus on to get through this tough patch.

I myself had given up for 6 months through a lot of graft and as you commented fell straight back into it a couple of days ago and lost a sizeable amount of money. To me, you seem like a caring individual and really want to turn this around which is a great start. I'm 22 and relatively unexperienced at this but I'm here to help!

I've started putting a daily diary/plan together outlining what I have done and what I'm going to be doing. I have also made a detailed list of all the reasons why I want to give up gambling and refer to this any time I receive these 'urges'. Placing blockers on your devices is something that has really benefited me and suggest possibly doing that also.

I personally think it's vitally important to confide with your wife and work through this together. The temporary upset vibe you may give off will save you a whole lot of heartbreak and money in the long term and by reading others stories you will see that. Having someone like your wife to support you through this tough time will really give you a direction to strive towards and along with the community will make you realise you're not in this alone.

Like myself, a few days ago even, I didn't know whether I had the strength to get back from this but it's one day at a time, things will get better. We're here for YOU. You seem like you shoulder responsibility and that's a massive step on the way to recovery!

If you feel the need to, please do talk to your GP about anxiety or - if you just want a friendly ear at any time of day or night - 'phone the Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90.

Please do chat to a GamCare Advisor if that is something you've yet to do, or if you just want to feel supported. Just a reminder that they are free to contact on 0808 8020 133.

All the best in your recovery! Keep me updated.

Thanks,

Andy
