Hi people

I'm new here although I've read quite a few posts over the last few months. I've tried to stop gambling many times. For me it's sport betting using my mobile phone, it's just always so accessible and I can have a bet any time of day or night. But this time I've self excluded from as many bookies I can think of. I've even signed up and self excluded straight away. I know I haven't got through them all but I've done about 15-20. I've not had a bet since Monday, it's now Thursday and I feel good. Lots more energy and better moods. I've joined for support and hopefully I can offer some support to others struggling on here. I've bookmarked this site and got rid of all bookie/tipster sites. It's christmas in 2 weeks so definitely can't afford to lose any more.

Welcome to recovery Phil29 🙂

This is a great place to come for strength & support so keep clicking on that bookmark instead of search when the urges hit!

Christmas is indeed right around the corner...I'm asking that everyone on here manages to stay gamble free til then!

IHi my name is Mark and my main problem is the machines in the bookies, yesterday on the way home from work I popped into grab a weekend footie slip and after 2 trips to the cashpoint I was a grand down that made it £1700 for the week. I have been gamberling seriously for about 3 years now but now things are getting out of hand. I work for myself and do ok I am not in debt but it just scares me how I know in my head that I am being a P***k but just keep pumping the twentys in, promising myself that what ever happens that will be the last spin. Then an hour later I am still there.

I have decided to sign up today as I know I am a gambler king addict and need help. I have quit before three months, a couple of weeks but then convince myself that I can now control it just bet £20 on the football, but within a week I am betting £100 a spin

You went to the cash machine twice? The maximum you can take out in a day is £300.

I have finally kicked the habit of sports betting I think. I had to realize that what makes us addicted is the fact we LOVE to lose. It's not about winning or gambling at all but that feeling of almost winning then feeling hopeless after you lose a lot of money. Once I realized this I was able to stop. When I had an urge I would just ask myself "why do you like to lose" and see it was pointless. I also keep 5% of my pay in my bank account every payday and look at the balance grow a little each time. It helps me tremendously. When I crave a bet I just ask the question and look at my bank balance. I don't have much in there yet but even $20 is great considering we are always broke.

Ryan18. I had my days take on me when I went in which about £700 then took £200 out of one account and £100 out of another. Hope that clears it up for you.

I've been gambling for years but only 18 months I've been really addicted to it, believing it's possible to make money from it. I've lost Thousands in total. Each time I'd go for weeks/months keeping a steady head but then I'd hit a losing streak and id lose my head too. Lose a lot of money, try and quit, fail and write it off, start afresh with a clean slate. But after doing this about 5 times I have to realise that it's just not working. I haven't got the mentality for it.

I slipped up last night. Thought I could do a £10 to £400 challenge with a online bookie I'd not yet signed upto. Just to clear my overdraft. First bet lost. So I self excluded. Need to stop giving the bookies any more of my money. We all do.

You can do it...I couldn't tell you how many nights I skulked home punching myself in anger & swearing not another penny but ran straight back there when money was accessible again. Now I am here in recovery (for real) I know the only way to stop writing off the losses is to not have them.

You don't say whether you go for weeks/months gamble free or just not out of control but in any case, you have crossed the line now & are a compulsive gambler...The only way for us is abstinence! Good job self excluding on Saturday, next time temptation comes your way, see if you can't just shut your phone off or beat the odds by self excluding without placing the bet! If gambling made us rich, there would not be new venues & online companies springing up every day! Let go of the past & let yourself enjoy your future - ODAAT
