Hi all, I joined yesterday and just wanted to say hi. I was a gambling addict many years ago, finally got out of it and debts mainly paid but have had a big relapse the past 12 months after a family bereavement.

Think I have been seeking escapism from grief and killing time and trying to find some joy but of course it backfired and instead it's made me more miserable!

I have blocked and banned websites. I feel half relieved but then half in a panic because I've lost that escapism now - hope that makes sense to others

@muppet, I think the most important thing here is to remember that relapses are part and parcel of recovery. I would always expect them to come at any given time no matter how long you have been in recovery. The best thing you can do is make it near on impossible and limit funds so should this happen, it’s not so destructive to your finances.

Also, having a relapse means you have also been in a good place.

it may feel that you have put all that hard work in for nothing but that’s not true. See it as a blip and nothing more.

Take care xxx

Such a good point from Mariah she is so right no matter how Long you been in recovery their will be times when this addiction will want you to gamble again. This is life Long so make sure all the Blocks are in place, as Mariah say you have to make sure you have all the doors closed so you don't let the addiction back in again.

@ypqtfao731 yes you're absolutely right. Just so disappointed having a relapse after years of being ok. I will recover from this and at least I'm taking positive steps to help

@tj3cpy0aru thank you so much for replying. It's so hard not to feel like a failure but you're right, it's just a blip in this very long road
