Hi all

I have just started this group. I am 40 years old and a few years ago my brother got me into Roulette and I had a massive win. From there it got out of control and despite winning big I’ve lost more and feel sick. Last night I was up all night not sleeping. I have felt this so many times and don’t understand why I keep going back. I have admitted I have a serious problem and despite stopping last year got straight back into it. I am so scared of a relapse and losing everything.......

Dear @dan84,

Thank you for taking the time to post on our Forum and for sharing your feelings with us all, this is a very supportive community in which you will get support and understanding from your peers. Please continue to keep posting.

I'm sorry to hear of your struggles and that you're unable to sleep, I hope you've managed to rest today and that you have a better night tonight.

Please remember that there is hope, although problem gambling is challenging, many people do go on to overcome it and to live a life of becoming gamble free. There are different coping strategies that may help you such as self exclusion from gambling, bank accounts such as Monzo that are able to block gambling transactions and reduce the daily amount available to withdraw and many more.

Perhaps you would benefit from making an appointment to talk things through with your GP so you have their support and guidance too? They can go through options available to you and they may be able to suggest things to help improve your sleep.

We can also make free referrals to one of our Treatment Partners or to our London team depending on where you live, they are based all over the UK. They can offer you further support in the form of some sessions with them, they offer a range of different pathways to access their support including face to face, telephone and online counselling.

We would always encourage you to open up to any support network around you if possible so you're not carrying the burden of the problem gambling by yourself. We're also here to support them too, should they need it.

Please know that you're not alone in this, we're here for you and we want to help and support you. You can call our helpline on 0808 8020 133 or you can access our Netline via our GamCare website. We're open day and night so there's always someone here who is ready and happy to talk to you.

Please be kind to yourself and remember that you've already achieved becoming gamble free in the past, you can do it again in the future. We believe in you.

Kindest Regards

Joanne

Hi Dan, you have taken a huge first step today, it was great to meet you in chat this evening. As unpleasant as it is, fear of losing something/someone can be the very motivation that keeps us going through our recovery. It is hard not look back but some wise words that were given to me - when the past calls, let it go to voicemail. It has nothing new to say.

I hope you can get some rest tonight.
