Hello..
I'm revisiting this site after gambling again..
the background is...ive got a well paid job and I work long hard hours, a partner who would give me the world and a beautiful happy healthy little boy... Yet I risk this daily.... I gamble everyday...onlineslots/bingo/scratch cards if there is a chance I can win money I'll try it. I am suffering the typical gamblers symptoms feeling down, worried ect my skin is covered in psriosis a skin condition that is stress related so I'm also physically showing signs of the stress I'm causing myself.
I cannot understand why I do it, I feel like I'm on the edge and just about to go over.
I have debts but there not out of control just yet - but heading that way. I'm going to lose everything if I carry out.. any help welcomed
Hi Pickled and welcome back! Well done on recognising the addiction is getting the better of you and for seeking help.
The first thing you need to ask yourself is what are you gaining from gambling?
We, as cgs, trick ourselves into thinking we’re gaining from gambling and in essence we are.
Gaining more stress
gaining big debts
gaining sleepless nights
gaining additional health conditions - the list goes on...
You have said you are gambling on anything and everything. Firstly have you looked at joining Gamstop and getting blocking software? This will limit your access to online gambling, which often is where the most money can go as the numbers don’t feel real on the screen. I know as I have spent a small fortune on online slots and what did that give me? Pain, suffering and misery. Nothing good comes from gambling and only when we stop will it start to get better.
Have you heard about Monzo banking? It is a bank account where you can block gambling transactions both online payments and in bookies. Worth giving some consideration if you aren’t prepared to give up your access to finances.
I have signed up for an account today in preparation for when I am having my wages paid directly to me. I want every measure in place before that time comes to make sure in a moment of weakness I’m protected.
Bingo? - online or land bingo? Online will be covered by gamstop and you can self exclude from the bingo halls, which I would advise you to do.
Scratch cards may be a bit more challenging and not something I know much about but the will to want to stop will definitely be required with limited access to cash.
Does anyone know about your addiction? Have you considered telling someone close to you so you’re not battling this alone?
The biggest lesson I have learnt is to accept the money is gone and it’s not coming back, chasing the dream will only end in more depths of despair that you didn’t imagine was possibly. I have hit rock bottom in the past and considered the unthinkable as that’s the lows it brings but with help and support, life can and will get better if you stop.
Wishing you all the best!
Bex
